As much turmoil as he (AB) caused off the field of play, you can't dismiss his play.

He had a stretch that was unmatched by any, both on and off the field of play.


It's a good watch of bringing back some of the STEELERS glory days of play.




Myself, knowing what we know today, I'd draft him as before. His play was magical, but his person turned to ****.

What say you ?

I say this ALL the time anytime he is brought up in a facebook discussion. Fans were quick to throw him away, and the constant comparison to any WR that says or does anything that's out of the norm...BUT, he was the best WR in the NFL for five straight years. And what he was able to do, might not be seen again. We've seen some VERY good WR, even now with Chase and Jefferson. We saw it with Adams and Cupp, and there are a bunch of up and coming names looking to take over the league...But none of them have put together a stretch like AB did.
 
He and Ben would've went down as the best Duo in NFL history, and he'd be a 1st ballot HOF.
Marvin Harrison actually had slightly better 4 year run in the early 2000's which is maybe a little more impressive because the NFL wasn't in the full on pass happy mode yet.
AB- 2013-2016 476 catches, 6,315 yards, 43 TD's
Harrison 99-02 469 catches, 6.322 yards, 52 TD's

But when they talk about AB's run, they don't say the best 4 year run, they say the best 5 year run, and can even argue the best 6 year run. Both of those receivers were legitimate Rice like WR's with numbers and consistency to back it up. Hell, AB missed 3 games his final two years with the Steelers and still put up 205 catches, 2830 yards, and 24 TD's.

He was absolutely the best over that stretch, I was simply pointing out that I think the stretch Harrison had before the pass happy NFL was slightly more impressive that's all.
 
Brown has his issues, but on the field, 84 was one of the best players in franchise history. I've also been seeing a lot of Le'Veon Bell highlights recently. The triple B's era may not have resulted in any Super Bowls, but that was some unbelievable football.
 
His downward spiral personally sucks as he was absolutely brilliant on the field. We can only imagine what that Burfict hit really did to him. He was on the HOF path, don't think he gets there now.
 
AB is a anomaly …he’s just so dynamic. Both times I’ve met him and had a chance to speak to him he was always respectful and took time for his fans.
 
The sexual harassment and the non-PAY for services he received are two BIG factors in my eyes. Nothing worse than a sexual predator who doesn’t pay his bills. I can’t let that go unnoticed.

OFF the field he is absolutely garbage and deserves his “Jail Time”.


On the field, even Jerry Rice was threatened for best ever. He sure made PITTSBURGH football fun.

Of course he had a QB who helped elevate him nicely.

Agreed... AB did have Ben throwing to him. The on field stuff was the best of the best from AB. The off the field behind the scenes **** show.........

I often wonder if maybe .....AB and Bell stayed....what could have been.

Though we won nothing when they were here but their early exit cut short a few more seasons where maybe something special could have happened before Ben retired.

i cant imagine the **** we fans arent aware of off the field.

just imagine if he had a real coach who could game plan opponents instead of getting routinely boat raced in the playoffs.

Ya know ya had a run when ya can put together a 34 min highlight reel like that.

Bittersweet watching it.

First thought-how dominant he was and how great Ben made receivers look.
Second- what he could’ve been and how far he fell.

BUT the resounding thought was how much that talent laden squad in his prime underachieved.

How did they escape without a ring to show for it with all that offensive fire power?

Easy answer, the Tomcept held many a players back.

Tomlinships were more of a goal as Coach Tomlin’s career progressed.

Terrell Owens (I know, I know) is still considered one of the best ever.

I think you can make an argument for AB in his prime for one of the best ever pound for pound.

Like it’s said above, time heals all wounds.
Though, I’m legitimately scared we will see the AB story end with a very sad headline at some point…
 
AB on the field was great while he’s was here. He was an extremely hard worker in practice and provided dozens of highlights in games.He and Ben created magic.
He simply couldn’t get out of his own way.

Owens had his time. When I think of the best ever though.....his name doesn't pop into my head. When you mention his name I think of when he was doing sit ups in his parking lot on ESPN. Dude did ball out though. I just don't think he is...."one of the best" ever. My take.

A true setup

Odd thought: did AB’s meaningless streak of games with 5 catches for 50 yards further cement Tomlin’s desire to maintain his meaningless NHALS streak at all costs…it may be where mediocrity was born right before our eyes as the new standard became consistent mediocrity at all
costs.
 
He was heading for all of the NFL records before the wheels fell off. What a bummer.

I wouldn’t go to bat to keep TO towards the top, but I don’t think you’re seeing many top 10 WR lists without Owen’s on it.
Many have him top 5 even…
