They go against the 26th ranked run defense and the defense that is the worse in the NFL at yards per carry at over 5... they gain like 9 yards on first down then they go 50/50 to DK....with a backup QB.
This is where I disagree with Deebo, in this case it wasn't scheme it was play calling.
They allow the QBs a section on the play sheet with their favorite plays. We know Mason is a deep ball guy( that's about all he's good at) and there is also a pretty much across the board philosophy with all teams that when you are 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1 that's where you take your shot...but this is the backup QB. Why would you put him in that spot and risk shaking his confidence?
After that pick Mason turtled. He went almost full check down mode. They should have established the run and kept the Bears off balance. That to me is just a strange way to think and operate on the opening series. It truly is "situationaly trash."
Completely different if you had Ben or Rodgers...I just don't get why you would make that call, that early, with a backup who hasn't played all year against one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Rudolph should never have had the option to throw that even if DK was single covered.
