Despite having more years on is contract, Thomas isn't worth more than Pickens. Pickens lack of production was a product of the offense and QB more than his ability. He also would've been the best available WR in the draft. Thomas' production decreased after a bright offensive mind arrived as head coach and there are players in the draft I'd rather have. If the Jags would take an actual 5th, maybe even a 4th, sure. Otherwise, pass.

With that pedestrian 40, C. Tate is now an option at 21.

The list of successful receivers with an absolutely blazing 40 time isn't very long. 4.53 is just fine for a good route runner.
Only receiver I would take at 21 is lemon..
Hands, routes and speed are the key ingredients, in that order. That said, if the first two are near equal, I'll take the speed guy every time.
Why didn't you use Randy Moss as your example for speed?
I agree. I think the Steelers might take a look at KC Concepcion. Perfect fit with DK and Pittman, and you have your dynamic return man for the next 4-5 years. I heard about his speech impediment, and I liked the way that he addressed it head-on. Shows good character. He's had some drop issues, but those can be fixed.

Moss was a freak of nature, but no one was crowning him as the best route runner, and he has a reputation of taking plays off.
Good kid.. has had his moments..
But not at 21 imho…

I'd like to see if we could package up two of our 3rd round picks and get another 2nd round pick. Then address O-line, Wide Receiver and Defensive End with those first 3 picks. Not necessarily in that order but those 3 positions specifically. Then come back with our third, 3rd round pick and add another O-lineman or Linebacker...BPA.

He had that and all of those other things, too, and he wasn't as fast as Willie Gault or John Ross.
Not having blazing speed is not a death sentence for a WR. Didn't even mention Largent, Boldin, Landry, Ward. Didn't Swann run a 4.5?

That's good. That's kind of my point. If you have the other tools, speed is a differentiator. It takes the top off a defense. My original point is that there's no way that Tate is getting picked in the top 5-7 due solely to his 40. There's a chance he'll be there at 21, but likely go between 12-16.
ADDED: It's like saying hand size doesn't matter for a quarterback because some QBs have small hands and are good and some QBs with big hands aren't good. It still matters. It's one data point.
No way give me some Tyson 7 days a week plus one day.
