2026 Free Agency Begins Thread

I see a lot saying the Dan Moore contract last year has teams scared.
Walker was a legit LT, anyone who watched Moore's tape knew it was a bad contract. Led the league in sacks given up, followed that up in tenn tying for second in the league.

Yes …Joseph fills the need at nose tackle, however, his better days are behind him. I think he he’s a situational guy in a rotation at this point of his career…
I believe the Steelers need to select a young true nose tackle early in the draft this year..
We have to get better stopping the run on defense.. or continue to expect mediocrity from that group this year.

What is intriguing about Joseph is that he can line up anywhere on the line and has been effective. He has commanded 2 blockers as well. His younger days are behind him but he still can play a significant role on the defense.

I like the fact they are bringing in solid players instead of desired players from drafts past or guys who beat you in 1 game

Dino, I certainly agree with you on the need for a young true NT. To me, that's Tim Keenan III of Alabama or Dontay Corleone of Cincinnati in the 4th. Why the 4th? They fall because they has have about zero versatility on the DL.

Got to say, though, a NT is a situational/rotational position in the NFL now anyway, so he will probably only see 15-20 snaps per game with Keenan/Corleone backing him for a 5-10 this year. Also, many of these big-body run stuffers have longer careers if they do it well--he does it well and he's only 31 next week.

Best thing about him is he can play up and down the line on run downs, and lets us move Yayha and Keanu around to better fits.

Would rather see a steady dose of Black than paying 5.5 per year for an aging, mid, rotational run stuffer to take snaps from him.

Assuming 3-4 and 3 down line being the max for sub packages (other than goal line) this just seems like expensive depth. How much play will the 5th-6th best guy get??

Maybe he’s just an expensive insurance policy for Scam (in case the ole fella gets hurt or decides to hold out for more money a couple months after his most recent extension). He at least lessens the drop off to the run D when ole Scam needs a breather.

Nice prospect… but I believe Hunter is the best true NT coming out this year..
If we don’t go Hunter, maybe orange in third or fourth?
Hunter is, but do you want to spend that high a pick on a 2 down player will be the question. Also Orange already has the great nickname too, "the big citrus"

If he is there at 21 I would take him..
Our defense runs well when we have a force in the middle… who cares he’s a two down.. situational football is everywhere.
Everybody complains about the highest paid defense, not playing well well, you can look at the middle of our defense as the reason for that.

I know that's what we would do, is it what the steelers would do? And I've seen mocks with him in the first and slipping to us in the second. I said it in another thread, this year is much harder to predict beyond Mendoza. They're are so many different ways each team could go

I like the pickup even if he's a one or two down DL. I think they know A-rod's price tag and are spending up to it with a couple easy restructures in mind. Not a big fan of those but they do them all the time. Im thinking they will go guard in round one or two.

I like Corleone. I think he might still be there in the 5th round.

Man, I get this feeling we will be doing something crazy in the draft. Would they dare sell out and go get Mendoza?

Highly doubt it as you’d think Art would have to sign off on that, pretty sure his balls aren’t that big.

What would that even look like?
1,2,3 this year and 1,2,3 in 2027 AND 1,2 in 2028 plus a few late round sweeteners this year
He’s not worth a risk like that even as much as we need a QB and have needed one for years.

I can’t even fathom what the Raiders would want. It would probably take giving out a immaculate amount of picks in their eyes.

😃

Wayyyyyyy More... moving from the 20's to 1 would probably cost 4 firsts plus a bunch of seconds and thirds seconds ... look at what KC had to do in 2017 to move from the late 20's to 10 OA, then look at what it cost Carolina had to do to get from 9 Oa to 1oa in 2023...

To put it in perspective, I can't find a mock draft sim that will even accept that trade. You can only trade 2027 picks in most, and even putting every single pick from this year and next, it's not even close to value for them to accept it.

I’m know it is unlikely. But I think they do something “big”. Go up and grab Styles or one of the other studs if they fall even a little.
