Trading Tomlin makes sense

And what also pissed me off is what I heard from the sideline reporter re: Tomlin's halftime comments -- something to the effect of "On offense we have to focus on ball security" as if the conditions weren't an excuse -- but then when asked about the missed tackling, it was "they're having a hard time keeping their footing" or some ****.

Wait, what? Which is it? It's always some sort of double-talk and excuses. He got outright embarrassed today by Harbaugh with his 2nd teamers.

You should post that over at Wex's Board. Some unrest over there on Black Monday, but most still clinging to "Never Had a Losing Season" inner tube.

Yep. I doubt the Steelers can win a playoff game next year. Which means 5 years and counting without a playoff win.

That would be the 10th season in 14 years that Shades failed to win a playoff game.

He's stacking 'em up like cord wood!

I've come to really dislike Wex's board. I'm glad you post over here (even if sporadically) because I can't even bring myself to go over there anymore. A circle-jerk of guys where if your opinion is different than theirs on anything (politics, football etc.), you're essentially labeled and ostracized.

his board is the 247 site, right?

Yep, that's it Omar.

There are no Tomlin backers left, just people with enough logic to know the Rooneys aren't firing him, the only way would be for him to want to leave

I believe I can still think of a few remaining nuthuggers, Litos. They were out in full force when their hero was 8-5 and a media-infused COTY candidate. You just don't hear from them after his embarrassing stretches like the 0-3 finish to this season.

Our O was ****, could not score more than 10 in the last three games. I'm not a pom pom waver for Tomlin, but he didn't have his #1 and #2 QB, #1 RB and his "#1" WR was a ghost majority of the season, not to mention his OL under-performed greatly. It's really hard to judge his performance or give him negativity this season.

It's not really that hard. The Steelers got crushed out of the gate by New England before all of the injuries you mention. As per usual, he was outclassed and embarrassed by Belichick.

Sure, the offense eventually became **** due to injury, but the fact that Tomlin continued to stubbornly support and even praise his offensive coordinator is a testament to his ineffectiveness. In the final game,Tomlin again showed his regression, challenging the wrong plays, mismanaging the clock, and getting schooled by a rival's second team.

His bid for becoming "coach of the year" fell flat on its face because this team lost their last three games (two of which were pick 'ems, and one as a 3-point favorite despite all those missing players), and the Steelers finished the season at .500 -- pretty much right where you'd expect a team with a very good defense and a weak offense to be.

Just within the past few days, one of their more prominent posters stated that "there wasn't a game on the schedule this season the Steelers should have won," described the season and Tomlin's job this year as "magical," and declared the odds of the Steelers replacing Tomlin with at least an equally competent coach as "astronomical."

In all fairness, some did take him to task for the "magical" comment.

We were fighting with one arm tied behind our backs all year people.

No we weren't. This team beat a bunch of rookie coaches, rookies QBs and backup QBs. They beat the winless bungles twice, the horrible Clowns once, the winless Dolphins once, a bad AZ team with a rookie QB, an Indy team with their backup QB and more injuries than us, and a Rams team that was up and down all year.

Then they lose to all the playoff teams they play, one game to the clowns, one game to the absolutely horrible Jets, and then lose to the 2nd and 3rd string rats. Tomlin was out coached by Adam Gase... a HC with a .469 winning %. Win that game and you're in the playoffs.

There are no excuses for this season. Just like last season when he went 9-7 with Ben healthy and missed the playoffs.

Well last year we had Ben so that means you don't try to play dominant defense.

Tomlin is like the Eli Manning of coaches.

There's a few great playoff runs but when you look at the totality of seasons and playoff appearances, the shine of those championships kind of wears thin. And the time FROM those championships just keeps looking further and further into the past. I mean, how can stuff that happened a decade ago be considered useful in evaluating his performance NOW? I mean we haven't been a relevant team in the playoffs in a decade now.

This should be a sticky above every for or against Tomlin thread for the next 5 months. Is there really anything else to be said?

Not happening now. I could see the case for it when Ben retires. We’d be rebuilding and he might not want to be part of the process and we would be in the market for draft picks.

Meanwhile, we be like, "I'm stealin' that!"

We've been fighting with one arm tied behind our backs for 13 years. But to be fair, HCMT was an exceptional interview.

Tomlin was out coached by...

Ax yersef a question. Have you ever witnessed Tomlin 'outcoach' anybody? In 13 years? Anybody? If Arty is even paying attention, and that's open to debate, how does he continue to justify this slow motion rolling train wreck? Year after year. 13 years.

With that said, he ain't going anywhere. And what does that say?

Tomlin got outcoached by Gruden and Gase in successive years with playoffs on line. He's even figured out how to hurt other franchises draft position when they have nothing to play for.

Not so sure. Barron had some good moments. Plus there is more important areas that need upgraded.

8M cap hit next season for Barron? With that you cover half of Dupree's franchise tag. He was insurance in case the FO couldn't draft Bush and he was more than serviceable but the rook has shown he can start and will keep improving so Barron won't be as needed next season, also Bush + Vince looks like the starting MLB pair for next season and when you go nickel you sit Vince and bring the extra safety. UG3 will be the natural Bush backup, the kid showed some good stuff in preseason

Wouldn't mind drafting a LB/SS rover in the 4th round to complete the nickel rotation

9-6-1. Tied the Browns, who were worse last year than they were this year.
Not to be picky.

last year boswell cost us 2 games the ot week 1 and Oakland, if you injured tell staff on they put you on IR i think a off the street k would of made that missed fg in oakland nd we would of won in ot.
secondary was dreadful as well.

Just to be clear here, the COTY candidate from here, is going no where both in team change or team advancement.. We are stuck with him and his coaching abilities for another two yeArs, like it or not.

Salute the nation
