The Coronavirus thread

It’s not like there is a federal surplus, so it’s money that the government doesn’t have. So if each tax payer gets $1,000, it’s really like a forced $1,000 loan. It’s kinda socialist.

Except virtually every taxpayer pays a lot more than that in taxes... give people tgeir money back and cut federal programs down the line...

When a country ends up 30 trillion in debt, it has been socialist for a long time, not just because of this crisis. Any taxpayer money has been long spent, the economy is only surviving on printed money.

so you're saying socialism leads to massive, unimaginable debt.

That Johns Hopkins map makes it look like all of Europe and most of the US is infected. It's like a worse case scene from a pandemic movie. In the US we have 0.017% confirmed infections. That whole map will be solid red if we ever get to half a percent.

Pelosi and Schumer have loaded the bill with lots of pork. They are the reason for these delays.

Times in my life I have voted straight republican: 0

I would be much more likely to vote Republican over any democrat these days... that party has lost its collective mind and are to blind or stupid to see it... I don’t know a single conservative or moderate conservative who is even remotely thinking of voting democrat... none... i know a metric ton of left leaning independents and moderate democrats voting republican this year and three times that number that say they just aren’t voting...

The Dems wanted to attack Trump so bad they didn’t even stop to think that it looks like they actively tried to tank the economy and make the epidemic worsefor political gains

If the repubs were smart... they probably aren’t.. but if they were, they would find a legal way to donate some of their war chest to procurement of more of the cure trump advocated then spin it that while the Dems were running attack ads, tgey were spending their ad money on the greater good...

Pelosi and Schumer have loaded the bill with lots of pork. They are the reason for these delays.

In a totally enclosed environment where exposure was virtually guaranteed and loaded with high risk age groups, those cruise ships only had about 18-20% people get it... out in the spaced out world that number would be a fraction of that...

40-60 percent of the world getting it is over time, not this year... like 90some percent of the world will get a strain of the common cold eventually, but not in the same year

Damn fine idea Mad. After all, we're all in this together. Except what's become of the Dims, they are lost souls.

In an unrelated story, the Dow posted a record at over 2100 points today. The buyback begins.

In an even more unrelateder story, President Trump's approval rating sits at 49% and his handling of the China Virus hits 60% approval.

Don't want to read the tea leaves with 6 days left on the 15 days to beat the virus, but I think the turn is nearing.

I have been buying stocks for days and planned to buy more today at bargain prices but it went up. Will still buy more though.

the virus seems like it may have the same effect on businesses as people. Meaning businesses that are in good shape may just get a bit sick for a time then be fine. Businesses that were already weak may die. Invest in proven companies that are trading at near lows and you will make money. Maybe not in the next months but in the next few years, you will have bought a bunch of bargains.

I can't watch any news or read anything from those idiots right now, it's absolutely disgusting.

They sponsored Event 201 along with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, so they have a vested interest in this living up to their Pandemic Model of 65 million deaths over 18 months at least from a perception standpoint.

There are 350,000 hospitality businesses in the United States. If you take the average of $1000 for every adult and $500 for dependents, that is about 250 Billion dollars. If you divide that by the number of businesses affected they could give an average of almost $700,000 per business to keep staff employed, stay on insurance, pay rent...etc That would be about a million times more effective than giving individuals $1000. That money is meaningless if they have no job to go back to.

If you give $700,000 to every business, you are going to see many if not most of them close as the owner will take the money and just retire.

"...the same quote from Rahm Emanuel, President Obama's chief of staff: 'Never let a good crisis go to waste.' Sadly, we're seeing the embodiment of that cynical approach right now. Because all the people out of jobs, the Democrats are using to push – what are they pushing for? Changing the emission standards on airplanes. Mr. President, what the hell do the emissions standards on airplanes have to do with thousands of people dying and millions of people out of work in the coronavirus epidemic?

Don’t treat this bill like a partisan Christmas. And by the way, you know, Republicans, we got things we'd like to advance too. Things I believe in deeply. Know what I'd like to do? I'd like to abolish the IRS...I'm not standing here with an amendment saying, 'As part of this emergency relief, let's abolish the IRS.'

There’s a place for that political discussion. The Democrats are pushing wind and solar tax credits. Mr. President, what in the hell does a windmill have to do with this crisis? Other than there are some Democratic lobbyists getting fat and rich and they're willing to extort a crisis to advance their political agenda.

Mandates on corporate board diversity. So these are Democrat that want to social engineer...Mr. President, what in the hell does that have to do with this crisis?

The Pelosi wishlist wants to restructure the debt for the postal office. Mr. President, last I checked – look, our postal workers, they go through wind, rain and snow, but they haven't been laid off.

I call upon both sides. Don't play games with us. This crisis isn't going to end tomorrow. This crisis isn't going to end the next day. It's going to last a considerable time. It's going to require adults to step up and lead.” ~ Senator Ted Cruz

Is Tom Hanks still alive? Asking for a friend.

Well, apart from dying of HIV in Philadelphia, his wife dying of HIV in Forrest Gump, being Castaway with China Virus in Australia with his real wife, Sleepless in Seattle, fighting a billionaire madman who unleashes a virus in Italy in Inferno, and tweeting about his Corona typewriter he just happened to bring to Australia and losing to Rita by "201" points in gin rummy, supposedly he is alive and set to star in the October Surprise release of "Bios" in which he stars as the lone survivor on earth of the apocalypse.

Interesting coincidences of course.

Nothing at all to worry about here.

LA Sheriff orders gun stores to close…

LOS ANGELES – In a sit-down interview with FOX 11, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva declared gun stores as nonessential businesses that will be forced to close.

Sheriff Villanueva also said he’s adding 1,300 deputies to patrol, that he’s released 1,700 nonviolent inmates from county jails, and criticized how local politicians have handled the messaging behind the numerous stay-at-home orders.

The Sheriff is also the Director of Emergency Operations, meaning he is the number one person in charge during a crisis like the coronavirus. All FEMA requests go through him, and all National Guard requests go through him.

One clear message that Villanueva is sending, is on gun stores.

“We will be closing them, they are not an essential function,” Villanueva said. “I’m a supporter of the 2nd amendment, I’m a gun owner myself, but now you have the mixture of people that are not formerly gun owners and you have a lot more people at home and anytime you introduce a firearm in a home, from what I understand from CDC studies, it increases fourfold the chance that someone is gonna get shot.”

Villanueva told FOX 11 he’s adding 1,300 deputies to patrol, doubling the current amount, and in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in jail, he has released 10% of the inmate population from county jails, 1,700 nonviolent offenders with misdemeanor sentences that were up within 30 days.

“We’re gonna keep violent felony suspects who are a threat to the community in the jail no matter what,” Villanueva said. “Anybody who has an idea that somehow we’re not going to be hard on crooks out there on the streets, they’re tragically mistaken, there’s twice as many deputies on the street now so the odds of you getting caught are a lot higher.”

Uhhh, yeah, introducing a gun to an environment previously without guns increases the chances of someone being shot by all the percent, you idiot. So question: How many shot were bad guys? See, because preventing bad guys from being shot is not a good thing, you ******* idiot.

I know I would. However, I;m sure there would be some rules or regulations(penalties) to keep owners from running away with the money.

The cure is more dangerous than the virus....though you could argue that the Postal service is almost no longer needed

‘Postal Service will not survive the summer.’ Lawmakers warn it could go bankrupt
https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241470831.html

The U.S. Postal Service could be in jeopardy as the coronavirus spreads, lawmakers say.

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney and Rep. Gerry Connolly said in a statement that the Postal Service needs “urgent help” amid the coronavirus pandemic, or it could shut down as early as June.

“Based on a number of briefings and warnings this week about a critical fall-off in mail across the country, it has become clear that the Postal Service will not survive the summer without immediate help from Congress and the White House,” the statement said. “Every community in America relies on the Postal Service to deliver vital goods and services, including life-saving medications.”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Chairwoman <a href="https://twitter.com/RepMaloney?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@RepMaloney</a> & Chair <a href="https://twitter.com/GerryConnolly?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@GerryConnolly</a> want <a href="https://twitter.com/senatemajldr?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@senatemajldr</a> to pass EMERGENCY FUNDING to save <a href="https://twitter.com/USPS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@USPS</a> from bankruptcy. We must prioritize life-saving, medical deliveries so our nation can fight the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/CoronavirusPandemic?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#CoronavirusPandemic</a>.<br><br>Read their letter: <a href="https://t.co/QZBEXAwNSw">https://t.co/QZBEXAwNSw</a> <a href="https://t.co/kOw14Ybch3">pic.twitter.com/kOw14Ybch3</a></p>— Oversight Committee (@OversightDems) <a href="https://twitter.com/OversightDems/status/1242504607588397061?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 24, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

House Democrats introduced a stimulus package that included emergency funds to save the Postal Service from “imminent bankruptcy,” according to the news release.

The Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act would provide a $25 billion emergency appropriation, eliminate the Postal Service’s current debt and require it to prioritize medical deliveries, according to the release.

Shutting down the Postal Service would be detrimental in several areas, according to the release.

It could mean important prescription drugs are delayed or not delivered. Last year, more than one billion shipments of prescription drugs were fulfilled by the Postal Service, according to the news release.

Where people are under shelter-in-place or stay-at-home orders, many rely on getting essentials delivered through the Postal Service.

Additionally, in an election year, many people rely on mail-in voting methods to cast a vote. More than 25% of votes in recent elections were distributed through the U.S. mail, according to the news release.

As of Tuesday, there were nearly 51,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the U.S., according to data from Johns Hopkins. As of last week, at least 20 postal workers had tested positive for COVID-19, the New York Times reported.

Vermin. Reprehensible vermin. Never let a crisis go to waste.

Pelosi's coronavirus stimulus package includes $300M for migrants and refugees
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...ckage-includes-300m-for-migrants-and-refugees

House Democrats released their own 1,400-page stimulus package to address the coronavirus, and it includes $300 million for refugees.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the $2.5 trillion economic relief package Monday after a $2 trillion Senate version failed to advance.

The package calls “for an additional amount for ‘Migration and Refugee Assistance'" of $300 million to "remain available until expended, for necessary expenses to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus: Provided, That such amount is designated by the Congress as being for an emergency requirement pursuant to section 251(b)(2)(A)(i) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985.”

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise slammed the proposal, labeling it Pelosi’s “socialist wish list.”

“Speaker Pelosi unveiled legislation aimed at exploiting the COVID-19 public health crisis by attempting to force the inclusion of a socialist wish list of policies that have nothing to do with the public health and economic emergency,” Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, said.

Scalise characterized Republican objections to the proposal, including minimum wage increases, extensions of visas and work authorizations (including those under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status), limiting Customs and Border Protection's capabilities, requiring the agency to “assure the timely adjudication of asylums applications," and allowing "certain funding to go to sanctuary cities.”

Pelosi defended the package in the Capitol and urged “the Senate to move closer to the values” in her bill.

“We give direct payments to families in a robust way and strengthen the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit,” Pelosi said.
