The Coronavirus thread

So, 'Go die in a fire' is out then?

Does that extend to our animal friends?

'Shoot the dog and install field turf' is gone too?

Threatening to tear down someone's downspouts is grounds for instant banhammer.

Why does Cuomo have a daily briefing that is carried nationally? Why do CNN and MSNBC give him full coverage but cut away from Trump?

These are rhetorical questions.

I see the Joe Biden show it on at 2:00. I'm sure he's get full coverage too, unless it seems damaging to him, in which case I'm sure they will cut away.

Interesting question indeed.

At coronavirus checkpoint, NY, N.J. drivers being pulled off I-95 by Florida troopers

Florida has set up several checkpoints, including a screening of drivers on I-95 South to catch New Jersey drivers entering the state.

Convinced that people are fleeing tri-state-area coronavirus hot spots, Florida officials have set up an I-95 South checkpoint and are yanking New Jersey drivers and others off the highway as part of the governor’s executive order that some travelers must self-quarantine for 14 days upon entering the state.

This sign warns of a checkpoint on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway. The Keys have been temporarily closed to visitors since March 22, because of the coronavirus crisis.

Florida Megachurch Packed with Worshipers During Coronavirus Pandemic

This is the clear and present danger ... people continuing to congregate -- squeezing into close quarters like sardines -- and that's exactly what happened Sunday at a Florida Church.

The River Church in Tampa was packed to the gills with worshipers who clearly were looking for hope. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who presides over the megachurch and has been reportedly defiant over social distancing, has claimed he'll cure coronavirus just the way he did with Zika.

"We are not stopping anything. I've got news for you, this church will never close. The only time the church will close is when the Rapture is taking place.”

Sheriff's Office obtains arrest warrant for pastor of Tampa church that held two large Sunday services

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant for the pastor of a Tampa megachurch who held two services on Sunday for scores of worshipers, violating a county order for residents to stay at home to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The Sheriff’s Office warned Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne and church attorneys at The River at Tampa Bay Church’s not to put the congregation at risk of contracting and spreading the virus by holding services at his church, Sheriff Chad Chronister said at a news conference. The Sheriff’s Office had received an anonymous tip that Howard-Browne was inviting the congregation to attend, even providing bus service to the church, Chronister said.

Howard-Browne refused to heed the warnings and held two large services on Sunday. A live stream on the church’s Facebook page showed congregants gathered for its Sunday morning “Main Event” service, many standing shoulder to shoulder while the church band played.

“Because of the reckless disregard of public safety and after repeated requests and warnings, I worked with our state attorney, Andrew Warren, to obtain a warrant for unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules, both of which are second degree misdemeanors,” Chronister said. “Our goal here is not to stop anyone from worshiping, but the safety and well-being of our community must always come first."

Florida governor: sick passengers on cruise ship cannot be 'dumped' here

Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, has said passengers on a coronavirus-stricken cruise trip cannot be “dumped” in his state, casting further doubt over where two vessels carrying hundreds of people will be allowed to dock.

Four people have died and dozens of people are sick with flu-like symptoms on the Zaandam cruise ship, which is currently traveling towards Florida after passing through the Panama canal with its sister ship – the Rotterdam – where asymptomatic passengers have been moved.

More than 1,200 passengers from the UK, the US and other countries have been confined to their cabins for over a week, with 73 guests and 116 crew members on Zaandam having reported influenza-like illness, according to the operator Holland America Line.

Pennsylvania Extends Coronavirus School, Business Closures Indefinitely

The state's stay-at-home order was also pushed back to April 30 affecting more than 10.1 million Pennsylvanians

Schools and businesses in Pennsylvania will remain closed until further notice because of the coronavirus pandemic, the state's governor said on Monday.

"Our business and school closures will no longer have a set date to resume normal operations," Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf said at a news conference from Harrisburg.

**** no. It's going to get ugly soon. There's no way in hell people will stay like this for a few more months without serious problems.

Domestic abuse calls are skyrocketing. Alcohol and drug abuse will too, as well as suicide. Yet some people still seem to have this idea that there are few if any serious negative consequences from shutting down the world and taking away most people's livelihoods.

If this was supercritical, how quickly do you think Congress would have changedvthe rules so they could vote from home?

Political gamesmanship is still pretty high so it means they don’t care that much

The thing that I don't understand is how some folks seem to think that as soon as this is over, the economy is going to take off like a rocket and go back to the super engine it was. I just don't see it. People are losing businesses. I mean there is still another month of this **** to go at the very least and it is looking to get even more restrictive than it already is. More businesses are going to shutter and I don't see where anyone is making any kind of money to swoop in and replace the businesses lost. The long term damage done to this country over shutting down the economy is going to be significant, and recovery could take years. I hope in the end we can look back and say with confidence that we did the right thing, but it sure doesn't feel that way right now.

The stimulus/relief bill tells you that they don't care.

Roswell Park VP fired over anti-Trump Facebook posts
By Stephen T. Watson
Published March 28, 2020|Updated March 28, 2020

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has terminated a top executive for Facebook posts that bashed President Trump's response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Laura Krolczyk, Roswell Park's vice president for external affairs, was initially placed on administrative leave from her position but was fired following the conclusion of an investigation into her remarks, spokeswoman Annie Deck-Miller confirmed Saturday.

Hauptman Woodward Medical Research Institute has placed Lisa LaTrovato, its director of development, on leave for her comments in the Facebook exchange with Krolczyk, the institute told The Buffalo News.

The institutions acted after the exchange between the two drew criticism once Republican operative Michael Caputo shared it widely through his Twitter account on Friday.

Both Krolczyk and LaTrovato worked for Democratic elected officials before moving into their positions at the medical and research organizations: Krolczyk for Hillary Clinton and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and LaTrovato for Louise Slaughter.

The exchange – according to screen grabs posted by Caputo – began when Krolczyk posted a link to an article by the Hill news site about the Trump administration's reluctance to pay $1 billion to General Motors and Ventec for ventilator production.

Krolczyk shared the article with a comment: "Vote Trump."

LaTrovato responded: "But will waste more than that on a wall and space force."

Krolczyk replied: "Trump supporters need to pledge to give up their ventilators for someone else ... and not go to the hospital."

LaTrovato responded: "I think they should be the only ones in packed churches on Sunday."

Krolczyk then said: "They should barricade themselves in there and ride this out."

LaTrovato replied: "Yup."

Later, another Facebook user wrote: "Wow, just wow, so your saying we decide who lives and dies based on political views? Great plan (thumbs up emoji)."

Krolczyk responsed: "That's literally what he's saying. Take your 'wow' and comprehend what your hero is saying. Your hero is saying YOU don't need a ventilator. So don't take one."

Krolczyk added: "Also don't cash your stimulus check. It's all a hoax. Chew some ibuprofen and be on with your day."

Caputo shared the exchanges and urged his 37,000 Twitter followers to raise their concerns directly with the two institutions.

"Is it your public health policy to assure Trump voters are infected with COVID?" Caputo asked of the two organizations.

Ayep. How much longer until they come up with another multi-trillion dollar "aid package?" Until this is over, we are going to be over $30 trillion in debt. I think this nation has over-reacted from the start of this thing. Now, there are armed vigilante groups going around their neighborhood and barricading people into their homes because they "suspect" the person has coronavirus. States barring travelers from other specific states. National Guard units enforcing this draconian ****. Your freedoms are already gone. The only question is whether or not our merciful and benevolent government will "allow" us to have them back.

This is going to get much, much worse, and I ain't talking about the virus. If/when they close down "essential" services, I hope you are well armed and well stocked. This **** is going to get ugly.

My parents grew up in Europe during the war years. They went without food many ,many times during those years. Especially my dad who lived in an industrial city that they bombed the **** out of. During that time they were scavengers. Begged, borrowed, stole daily. Whenever he sees some type of conflict going on in the world he would always say, wait till people get hungry. That’s when everything changes. When you can’t feed your kids or yourself. Desperate people do desperate things. That’s when the **** really hits the fans.
