The Coronavirus thread

So that’s why they closed some places and not others in MARCH... because of the election eight months later NOVEMBER. People can delude themselves if they so wish, you’re right about that!

Yes. The first wave did not cripple Trump's strong economy. Now we are seeing full apeshit panic mode from the libtards. It was expected.

In fact, the opposite is true. Trump is way behind in the polls, the GOP is facing deserters in large waves, ie Republicans are losing their voters due to Trump. All's left for Mr. Cognitive Tests is his dwindling, hardcore base of MAGA redhaters. It is exactly in Trump's best interest to sow chaos and confusion right now. He's already questioning the results of the election (in ******* July!) saying 'he'll see' if he accepts the results or not. Trump is down to his final, few desperate moves before the election. Sending his brownshirts out on the streets of America is one of them.

Oh that is INDEED rich.

Here is a FACT (definition in Indy's post above)....

Democrats haven't accepted the results of an election they've lost this century. Y'all be fine with that though.....RRriiiiiggghhhtttt??? Cuz...it's somehow different.

Hanging chads be damned.

Trogs, I would suggest taking the red pill next time.

And I suggest you stop taking the red herrings.

I think the blissful ignorance blue pill takers are the ones downplaying a pandemic.

Strong economy? So the April stimulus and any further stimulus is wasteful government spending?

Ha, I don’t even read the HuffPost nor do I post anything from there. That’s the funny thing w Trump, you can find all the info and analysis you need from conservative sites and sources. Mainly, it’s simply enough to let the man talk, his words speak for themselves. No need for dem/liberal commentary to highlight the obvious.

I’m glad you’re entertained, as the country burns to the ground - literally & figuratively - under Trump. Sit back & grab some marshmallows.

My problem Tibs is that so many of the statements used against Trump are false as they are completely taken out of the context of his speeches and thoughts. I will grant you he makes it easy with his style and manner of speech but it doesn't make it any less wrong to take them in small chunks devoid of the context. I will also grant you that the right did the same to Obama on many occasions and it is just as wrong in those cases. Many many of the claims made about him are just flat out fabrications from editing what he says.

Despite your repeated threats and juvenile grandstanding, I’ll gladly meet you anywhere, any time. I’ll even buy you beer.

You’ll soon realize I’m not the liberal-commie-anarchist many of you believe. Sure I have full-blown, raging TDS, increasingly so, and for good reason. Because I love this country and hate to see what Trump is doing to it.

That gave me a good chuckle. Thanks.

Your info is soooooo last week.

Yeah, you must be right. He's widely loved and respected, with solid job approval numbers, no way he loses to a half-wit like Biden. I'd say he's a shoo-in for his 2nd term. What American wouldn't want four more years of this? So much winning, everywhere you look.

Back to COVID, the US just hit 4 million COVID-19 cases today. The scary fact is it took just 15 days to add 1 million cases, in the middle of the summer, no less. Instead of doing funny-math with the numbers to explain the problem away, let's hope the curve is flattened and the cases start coming down soon. The fact it's almost August doesn't bode well for what's to come next few months. I pray for all those affected by the virus, wherever they may be.

Supe, this troll has a serious hard-on for you and Florida, did you guys play a practical joke on him and invite him to a Steelers gathering but gave him the address to a gay bar or something?

Two things:

  • Well, that's what Trog CLAIMS happened.
  • And interesting that Supe knew that place's address without needing to look it up.

We've known for months based on antibody tests that we had anywhere from 20 to 85x more cases out there than tests had validated.

When I took my son to get tested, the lines were out the door. Tests are free. No doctor script needed any more to get one. Testing is accelerating at an astronomical pace.

So the numbers of cases discovered will increase. Simply, utterly logical.

The death rate is all that matters.

The chances of someone dying from this virus is 0.044% right now.
The chances of dying in a car wreck are 1 in 103 or 0.97%
That's a difference of 183% or an increase of 2,105%

Just to put all of this in context.

In the end we will all be a statistic. A heart disease stat, a cancer stat, a murder stat, a COVID stat. Statistically speaking, in the context of all the ails humans face daily, COVID remains low on the list.

It's in my house. It could kill me. But in the end, in sheer context, it's just not as dangerous as so much else we face.

Ha, I don’t even read the HuffPost nor do I post anything from there.

I have written at least three times that you repeat garbage from one of the most vile and disgusting locations on the internet, Media Matters, a cesspool funded by a Nazi collaborator, George Soros, who says that yeah, I was with an SS officer as he stole property from the Jews and herded people onto trains but I was young and don't regret doing so:

You never denied using garbage from that garbage site and its Nazi-sympathizing contributor.

Congrats, Tibs, you have aligned yourself with a genuinely ugly, evil, vile, contemptible man.

Forgive me if I don't give a flying **** about your opinion of Trump supporters.

Cry me a river, Karen. Oh, the outrage. According to media matters, Soros funding amounts to roughly 10% of their annual budget. The site was started by a former conservative to offset disinformation coming from Fox News and other alt right/far right news sources. They are a thorn in the side of the nutty right, that's for sure. Having said that, I don't give two ***** about Media Matters, don't support them, or even frequent their site. If I posted something from there, among the hundreds of sources I may have posted from over the years, it certainly wasn't with the Holocaust in mind, or jews being herded onto trains, as you describe.

Just some more typical faux outrage from you. Why don't you start researching Ruport Murdoch's media empire, or that of the Koch brothers. Or more importantly, let us know who's behind OANN. Just try not to get your panties in a bunch when you do.

Rasmussen was the only poll to get it right in 2016, so I am going to believe them over the ramblings of a raging TDSer.
No offense though.

I posed this question before to our liberal friends and didn’t see an answer. You claim to be the party of science. The science clearly shows that kids are at a very small risk and a "consensus of scientists" aka pediatricians have clearly said schools should be open.

yes or no, do you think schools should be open this year?

yes or no, do you think schools should be open this year?

From the American Academy of Pediatrics:

With the above principles in mind, the AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. The importance of in-person learning is well-documented, and there is already evidence of the negative impacts on children because of school closures in the spring of 2020. Lengthy time away from school and associated interruption of supportive services often results in social isolation, making it difficult for schools to identify and address important learning deficits as well as child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation. This, in turn, places children and adolescents at considerable risk of morbidity and, in some cases, mortality. Beyond the educational impact and social impact of school closures, there has been substantial impact on food security and physical activity for children and families.

Policy makers must also consider the mounting evidence regarding COVID-19 in children and adolescents, including the role they may play in transmission of the infection. SARS-CoV-2 appears to behave differently in children and adolescents than other common respiratory viruses, such as influenza, on which much of the current guidance regarding school closures is based. Although children and adolescents play a major role in amplifying influenza outbreaks, to date, this does not appear to be the case with SARS-CoV-2. Although many questions remain, the preponderance of evidence indicates that children and adolescents are less likely to be symptomatic and less likely to have severe disease resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection. In addition, children may be less likely to become infected and to spread infection. Policies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within schools must be balanced with the known harms to children, adolescents, families, and the community by keeping children at home.
