I know everybody is still absorbing the greatest road win in NCAA history last week when Penn State went into Madison and beat dem Badgers, but we must move on. Last week saw quite a few good matchups. This week is back to cupcakes. Not many interesting games this week. Aside from the awesome Penn State game, there's really only 2 or 3 other games that look interesting.
Ball State at 11 Penn State 3:30 FS1
Penn State had a huge win on the road last week. That defense held up against 95 plays run by Wisconsin. PSU also has a big game vs Auburn next week who plays in a small southern conference. Could PSU get caught looking ahead? They better not. Ball State is a MAC team but a good one. They could win that conference so if PSU plays half assed, it could be a long day. Could be close at half due to some hangover but i think PSU pulls away in the second half.
It was great to see PSU make halftime adjustments. I keep being struck by the similarities i see to PSU and the Steelers in terms of having a new OC that makes adjustments to attack weaknesses. PSU clearly started attacking deep in the second half and made plays. Probably should have scored 21 at least as Clifford missed a couple open throws. It is amazing how WR Jahan Dotson has emerged as a true playmaker. He was a big recruit who was just so-so up until the middle of last year when the light turned on.
12 Oregon at 3 Ohio State Noon FOX
Why would Oregon agree to play a noon game in the eastern time zone? I get it that Fox pushes their Big Noon game but if i'm Oregon, there is no way in hell i'm agreeing to a noon start. Oregon's best defensive player and projected top 10 pick DE Kayvon Thibodeaux is not likely to play. Ohio State is favored by 14.5 so this one could get out of control.
10 Iowa at 9 Iowa State 4:30 ABC
This is probably the best game of the day. A rivalry game and an evenly matched game. Iowa blew out Indiana last week. Kirk Ferentz is a great football coach. He gets the max out of his players. They just don't recruit well. It takes a few years to coach up the mid level recruits they get. That generally means that Iowa is really good every 3 or 4 years when they get a big enough stockpile of coached up starters. This looks to be one of those years.
12 Utah at BYU 10:15 ESPN
a rivalry that could produce an entertaining game to have on in the background while pouring over the next day's fantasy football lineups.
Stanford at 14 USC 10:30 FOX
USC looked good week 1 but Stanford has had a history of upsetting the Trojans. If Oregon gets blown out by Ohio State then the Pac 12 really needs USC to be something this year.
