Dick LeBeau Out as Defensive Coordinator

probably to allow the focus to be on Dick at this time?
if there's a handshake agreement, then Butler will be announced soon.

True but he already said he is resigning not retiring..

With reality set in, a big thanks for all of the great defenses that LeBeau coached during his tenures with the Steelers. It was a lot of fun to watch those teams and I know training camp won't be the same without him.

In regards to Butler, it will be a raw deal if he doesn't get the job, but you have to hire the best coach possible.

They probably do have better D Lineman than LB's on the whole at this point, so I don't think it's a huge stretch.

They have enough linebackers that fit the scheme, but still would need a good pass rusher. Also, a change would essentially mean giving up on Jarvis Jones. Don't see where he'd fit in.

They still need two edge rushers regardless. Heyward, McClendon, and Tuitt might make a decent DT rotation.

Their LBs are probably all better fits for the 4-3.

Thanks for all the great defenses Coach LeBeau. Sorry you were stuck with cool shades for the past few years.

Tomlin, you're probably going to, but don't **** this up.

Best wishes to Lebeau for his services here but really this is what's best for the team right now. A New start and scheme will work wonders, hopefully switch to the 4-3 and utilize our best players.

I'd like to go outside of the organization, my guess is Butler's style is going to be very similar to Lebeau's.

With Lebeau, we get damn near zero contribution from rookies and young players in general. You can not go into a draft with any type of enthusiasm, knowing that..

The problem with the Dungy/Tampa 2 is that it was really only consistently successful In Tampa Bay and briefly in Chicago under Lovie Smith. Dungy had very lackluster results with it when he went to Indianapolis.

The problem is that you need a great, not merely good, 4-man Rush to make it work, as well as a freak of nature at LB, like Derrick Brooks and Brian Urlacher who can consistently cover 20-30 yards down the field. The personnel is hard to obtain.

You all just got your answer on whether Harrison will be back or not..

Sign Suh and go 4-3! write it down! ;)

i wouldn't promote butler. I'd look outside the organization for something new. This might be tomlin's chance to go to the defense he used in tampa.

exactly! ! !

We need players..they make any scheme work. Fix the pass rush doesnt matter who is calling the plays.

Wow. Even though we all saw the writing on the wall this season, it still sucks to hear.

Good luck in your future endeavors, Coach!!!! You will be missed.

Sad sad day. seriously few people shaped the NFL landscape as much as he did. adjusted for era, his best 8 years here were almost point for point in every category the same as the Steel Curtain years in the 70's. I hope he has a great job lined up.

I wouldn't mind a switch to a 4-3 base. Either way, of course, we need to add two edge rushers.

Well,as much as I loved DL,it was time for a change. I wish him luck in his future plans. I think the players loved him and he will be missed by the fans. As I do not follow college ball all that much,is there any new blood coaches out there that you would like to see given the opportunity to interview?

Hopefully the fire returns. Hope they bring someone with a nasty attitude
