It’s all about perspective

Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl roster that Cowher built after he won the power struggle with Donahoe.
I used to say the same thing until I compared Tomlin's Superbowl roster, only half of the starters (11 of 22) were on Cowher's SB roster. And that doesn't include Max Starks move from right to left tackle.

love the word Hogwash.

that Killer B's offense is the reason our current Defense is so stacked and we don't have the receivers. I believe our current over-correction to all the money in on defense is because we had that offensive talent and couldn't win playoff games.

BUT, how many playoff games did we have all three B's healthy?
The current defense is top heavy.
Elite Pass rush, maybe the best Rookie LB since Watt in Peyton Wilson (I credit him for the Rats win last week)
Defense is much improved but doesn't stand a chance without TJ playing lights out.
A stacked defense is not 1-10 without Watt.

It’s been well documented that 1 killer B is the magic number and we have him, currently in the process of cracking the code.

Boz will lead us to the promised land behind consecutive 18, 21 and 24 point performances leading up to the 27 putting a SB record well out of reach for all the pretenders.

Were gonna kick some a$$ this year!!!

The common denominator to most HC’s success stories is the franchise QB

Reid couldn’t in Philly-gets Mahomes now he is awesome

BB sucked his whole career- gets the Tommy Boy and he becomes the GOaT lmao

Mike was having success in Ben’s hey day

Very few getting it done with average-crap QBs in this league

A great QB will make an OK-good HC look brilliant and average QBs can make a good HC look pretty average-poor

As always it’s 90-95% about the players on the field making the plays
Mahomes was drafted under Reid. Brady was drafted under BB. They didn't inherit a sb hof qb.

See 1986 and 1990.

Neither inherited a hof defensive coordinator either or a team that finished top 10 on both sides of the ball in the year before he got there.

Agree, Cowher’s teams could miss their BEST player and still perform admirably.

Without WATT and 1-10 for the record, is a terrible testament to bad scheme or poor coaching.

Tomlin had a Hall of fame QB in Big Ben
He ended every season with an egg on his face despite having the best trio of weapons in the league, statistically the best ever to take the same field. The Killer Bees.

Harbaugh wins atleast 1 superbowl if given 5+ years of that talent on offense. Alot of coaches would have.

Harbaugh has been the Steelers biggest rival forever with Flacco and a bunch of mid tier talent on offense. Ray Rice was one of the best but that was years ago.
Every year they are solid no matter who they put on the field, now they have the #1 rushing attack in the NFL with a chance to make history.

Harbaugh has done just as well as Tomlin with less talented players, Night and day less talented. Thats what great coaches do.

The core was there. Ben, two future defensive players of the year, hof defensive coordinator, yea, Tomlin owes his success to Cowher. Look what he's done without Cowher's core.

I have admittedly pounded Tomlin at various times for years. He did make some questionable in game decisions mostly due to inexperience.

Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl roster that Cowher built after he won the power struggle with Donahoe. After Cowher retired, Colbert took over much of the roster assembly that I believe Cowher had control of. His drafts left a lot to be desired and we were losing the Steelers way.

Since Khan has taken over his drafts have addressed things that Colbert ignored for years. Coincidentally Tomlin has suddenly become a much smarter coach. You can say what you want about Tomlin but it's pretty obvious players love playing for him. I also thought he did a great job guiding us through one of the toughest schedules in memory to get his Super Bowl. We'll see how this works out but right now I wouldn't want more than a handful of coaches other than Tomlin, and most of those would be questionable choices.
Any coach could have done that with that roster.

Also, look what those coaches did before they became head coaches. Cowher ran a top 10 defense three years in a row in KC. Bellichick ran two SB defenses in New York.

Tomlin went 31st against the pass in MN as defensive coordinator in 2006.

Not totally sure why I would want the Steelers to build an offense around Action Jackson, I wouldn’t. That has more to do with what I think about Harbaugh as a coach than Tomlin. And what I think about Jackson. He is a great RB not sure I am going to buy stock into anything else.

We know what Mike is and isn’t at this point. But if I have to choose have to. It would be Steelers approach over anything the rats did.

And sure they need to be better in areas well documented. But yeah if we are pinpointing options….
Jackson has won 2 MVP awards and could win one this year as well. He struggles against us and in the playoffs, but against alot of teams he has been lights out. His passing has improved, and I'm not sure if it coaching or stubbornness, but he could have ran more against us. I feel like Harbaugh could have got more out of the Steelers especially offensively. Not sure about defense, but i doubt Harbaugh would play conservative cover 2 and let teams pick us apart with the talent we have had

And won a SB in Tampa as the Secondary Coach....

I love how a Baltimore thinks Tomlin is a better coach, becomes the 'Reasons why I hate Tomlin' Thread.

We should have won SBs with the killer Bs, too bad we never had them healthy in the playoffs. Too bad Shazier got paralized on our best team. Too bad we're not the Alpha Dogs in the AFC during that time, having to play Manning, and Brady to get to the SB. This is why John Madden hates the Steelers. In their minds, they were the best team in the 70s and the only made it to a SB because we lost our top 2 RBs in the AFCC for the 76 season. They were lucky to win one. Tennessee had Campbell and an incredible offense. Same with the Bills and Juice.

It happens and now teams have to navigate Mahomes, Allen, and Mr Jackson. Understand why we don't make the SB every year?

Most rational post.

"Only" half of the starters? That's it?

lol

They never even get close to the Superbowl anymore.

I just don't think many people appreciate how much Tomlin has failed over the past decade plus as it relates to legitimately competing for championships.

The Steelers post season success, or lack thereof, during that time has been comparable to what we saw in the 1980s, which were considered dark times for the franchise.

This season is showing promise, but we'll see how it ends. They started 11-0 not long ago, only to completely collapse afterwards.

If something similar occurs again, I'm sure the excuses will be lined up.

You’re really into the inheritance thing
I get it

Still both needed the QB- the point of the post

Matters not how they got QB, drafted while they were there or “inherited” unless ya just tryna find stupid ways to hate on Coach T because he wasn’t in the draft room when said QB arrived.

But I’m sure you know all the inner workings of every organization and exactly who pulled the strings/scouted/picked those QBs too lmao

Typical garbage assumptions

That Ben could do down and he could pull off a Tomlinship with Duck and Co.

But can hardly win a game without Watt certainly says something

Is Watt that much more crucial to the team than Ben was??? The stats seem to support the argument although I’m not sure it’s true.

It is crazy tho

It didnt happen during a Steelers game, but a player one got a roughing call vs him for LIGHTLY BRUSHING BRADY'S ******* LEG WITH HIS HAND while getting blocked past him...

**** that ******... if he had played in the early 90's he would have been a backup...
Since it’s game day vs the Stains…

Another from the most ridiculous penalties ever was vs the Stains when OL lines up illegally, ref throws the flag, ref comes out and explains “there is no flag on the play, the player was confused” lmao isn’t that how every single illegal formation ever happens

The zebras certainly are a mystery
