Dulac reports Art growing impatient and frustrated

I think first and foremost Art wants Tomlin to become the Steelers’ all time win leader. Should be getting close to that record but as far as I’m concerned he ranks third behind the Emperor Noll and William Cowher.
I will also add, I’ve never seen the board here almost to a man or woman be ready for the great Tomlin to move on with his life’s work.

I’ll admit, by ‘04 I was starting to wonder if a change was needed even though I loved Cowher. The difference to me was, for 13 years other than a few hiccups which most rational people understand are gonna happen, I always thought we had a chance. I don’t feel that way about Tomlin. I just don’t. Cowher made me believe they always had a fighting chance. There is no fight in this coach, just cliches (sp?) and word salads. Cowher was everything a Steeler fan thought Pittsburgh was. I cannot say I have ever thought that about Tomlin even after the win in XLIII or the loss in XLV. Sunday is gonna be interesting to say the least.
 
I think you have to look at the Pats and Packers situations. The Pats had unprecidented success. It looked like it dried up after Brady left and the sign stealer was gone. They cleaned house had a terrible year. Hired a good coach and are back in the real mix.
Packers let the guy who beat Tomlin in the SB go. Hes already gone again and they again play more legit contention.

Ti be honest....by 2004 that "Pittsburgh" aura and most of the citizenry that developed the true blue Yinzers .....was gone or left at that time also..

The city and the Steelers are not your Daddy's city and Pops favorite football team any longer...
I lived through the Steel Industry decline and experienced the job loss by our Fathers, uncles, cousins etc....I just hope I dont live long enough to see the day the Steelers move out of Pittsburgh....
 
Cowher gave it his all, then realized it was time to step down.

Tomlin will not realize, 18 million reasons why NOT to step down.

I'm not buying this story. I would rather hear it from Art, rather than Dulac, his golfing buddy. More people would pay attention if Art said it publicly. This is just a puff of smoke.
 
This is more than smoke, in fact it’s reported that the Duece brought Tomlin and his wife over for dinner and asked Mike what they should do.

Even invited the wife over to discuss business.....Hmmm?
It is either just a informal dinner with a business partner and his wife....or Rooney's going full out gangsta!! lol
I know he's Irish...but was the main course pasta based? ;)

For me, it wasn't after 2004 AFCC game.
It was the season after we finally won "one for the thumb".
I was furious at Cowher because he looked like a cardboard cutout on the sidelines.
Zero emotion. No spit. No yelling. No stuffing all 22 pics in refs pockets. NOTHING.
And I feel bad for that to this day learning his wife was dying.
He obviously had other more important things going on his life.

Stadium was packed no matter who we played, there was never any "Go Pack Go" chants or 49er fans taking over our stadium then. Best record in the NFL in 2001, won a playoff game in 2002, should've been in the AFCCG if not for Nedney's acting award in 02, then Ben was drafted in 04 and that great season, the energy was an all time high in 04 near the end of Cowher's tenure.
Now compare that to the end, well hopefully near the end of Tomlin's tenure, the fan excitement is at an all time low since I've been a fan.

yep. then, you knew the games were going to be good. sure, there would be the occasional missed tackle or mistake by the defense and an offense that just teetered on being explosive.

now, you watch waiting for the defense to implode (usually happens after halftime if not by the 2nd quarter), while the offense is - this year - mildly acceptable since we're seeing new formations with new guys. Though you know now the offense is not going to win a come from behind game, and the defense most certainly isn't going to shut any offense down.

This team is the creme-de-la-creme of Tomlin. Lots of pretty bells and expensive whistles, but very little substance.
 
Maybe Miami can offer him a job.
 
Man, I'd love to know what Chicago was going to offer for Tomlin when they called this past off-season.

Do you think that is totally because of the product on the field? Or is it partly a result of really passionate fans being priced out of games? I remember that was a fear as these new stadiums were being built with seat licenses and such.

I'm trying to determine in myself if my lack of passion is about the product or just getting older and things that come with that. I don't give two shiits about what the Steelers are doing or anything football for that matter when my granddaughter is over and running around.

I think it's a little of both, but I think it's more about the product on the field, look at the Jesse James game, what was that 2018? The stadium was packed, it was during my men's indoor soccer league game, and guys were subbing out just to run to the TV to watch.
I have a granddaughter that is almost 6 months old, yes everything is on the back burner when she's over.

Tomlinson teams are weak and they get fat paychecks…they don’t care as much as the guys did

Giving Heyward and Watt that much money is a joke!

I did a lot of drugs in the 60s, so maybe I blacked out for a few years.
But when did Colin Cowherd coach our team?!?!

Both remained in the org in some way after the official transfer of power, and both had the base for championship level teams in place when they transferred power... art 2 has... um... a non losing season streak...

DAN was responsible for bailing out Art after all the years as a “lovable loser”, then went on to establish the franchise as one of the league’s best. AR2 was handed a top notch winning product, his ineptitude has resulted in a much decreased product to be handed down. The next guy will have his work cut out for him, not as much as Dan, but close, just depends on how long AR2 continues to run things into the ground.

Sunday night was two-fold. 1. The Steelers have been irrelevant in the playoffs for so long, no fans of the team who have been around have real expectations for success. There is an element of disinterest with the team as a result. 2. A lot of season ticket holders hate night games because the Steelers have been oversaturated with them over the years. They suck to attend. Someone next to me apparently sold their tickets for over 2.5x face value. Others sold for 3-4x face value. Packers fans really wanted to be there and dumping primetime tickets was an easy choice for a lot of fans.
