So... you HAVE TO take a quarterback in this draft... who ya taking?

if you Google “ what Mike McCarthy wants in a qb” all the articles will pop up. McCarthy has made it no secret what he’s looking for.
There's no direct quote from MM that Howard is just as good or better than Simpson in any of those articles. He speaks well of Howard and some of the writers add their two cents about the Simpson comparison, but that's not coming directly from MM.

100

Only a complete dipshit coach would actually say that

Those were the words of a dipshit talking head and his opinions of what MM said…he read a lot into that

Talking Heads and Dip-***** have a lot in common .

Salute the nation

Allar has the tools, and he's 21. His floor is a solid backup, but his ceiling is as high as any QB in the draft. I'd love to see him get the chance to run a real offense. Let him and Howard battle it out.
Allar is who I also want. His upside is tremendous. He just needs time to be coached up.

I've been trying to put in this link from the Steeler depot about the Simpson/Howard debate. But what I have below in your URL and pull it up. Of course McCarthy didn't say it directly. This is draft season and unlike Tomlin, you don't tip your hand on who you like and don't like for competitive advantages. But this guy was in direct contact with McCarthy and got it based on what McCarthy had told him. We are not talking Simpson at # 21. You can take that to the bank.

We aren’t allowed to post links from that site. 👏

The Steelers aren’t taking Simpson in the 1st. True

Art the Mediocre said as much and isn’t the clever type of guy plotting a draft smoke screen so he can grab Simpson. A better player fell in his lap last year and they passed. Art the mediocre will do everything in his power to bring back the geriatric QB and chase some more mediocrity.

If Simpson is there in the 2nd, maybe a different story.

Not sure why the talking heads try to put words on people though, other than talking heads are just dipshits and that’s what they do.

Claims have been made that Beck has a punchable face. That he looks like a meth head. So it stands to reason that his girlfriend is unbelievably hot.

Why is that?

Same...could live with Beck on day 3 because of the pedigree and performances against top competition, but I'd take Allar as high as the 2nd.

Allar has had mediocre seasons while struggling against cupcake schools. He is as much of a project as Payton

Allar is a project, I agree, but we're talking 1000+ attempts at a top FBS school vs. 225 at an FCS school. Allar just turned 22, Payton will turn 24 in October.

1.5 years younger, much more experience vs. better competition. Allar has the better tools, too.

Sorry, it's not even close.

A) Millions of NIL reasons and more to come

Or

B) he knows how to lay the pipe

Or

C) his girl is a meth/crack head too

I think you're assuming a lot.

To hear some (even PSU fans) talk about Allar, you'd think he completed 48% with 10 TD and 20 INTs or something

Just for reference, here are Allar's career numbers

With 35 starts
633 of 1002 for 63.2% 7402 yards 61 TD 13 INT

He was efficient. Completed a high %. His best year was 2024 where he only averaged 25 passes per game. You're not going to put up huge numbers with 25 attempts per game.

I am usually looking for high 60s low 70s completion percentage. Not sure 63 percent would be considered high.

I do agree that his TD to INT ratio is good.

I still rather not take a QB until late three.

At that point I would be all for a looksee.

I get the larger point, but 63.17% isn't a "high %". Last year it would have been good enough to rank 71st in the CFP.

Drew's biggest issues seem to lie in that six inch or so space betwixt his ears. He is a two-read QB who gets panic feet under pressure. He also has a rocket arm but isn't exactly sure where that ball will end up after launch.

Not like his coach helped with that . I will say there is an element of unknown due to to a Canada type of coaching regime. Not saying Drew will be a franchise but I can’t say he will be a flop either. He is very much a wait and see.

Payton possibly has better tools. He has a strong arm and ran a sub 4.6 40. Allar is in the 4.8 or 4.9 range. Allar is 2" taller and about the same weight as Payton. I get Allar played better competition, but PSU also plays several cupcakes a year where Allar should look like a superstar. I just haven't seen that. I think Payton has possibly the highest ceiling. I just haven't seen those wow moments from Allar you would expect from a top tier QB

His completion % went up in his career. In 2024 it was 66.5 and in his injury shortened 25 he was at 64.8 working with 3 new WRs and no more Warren. None of Penn State's WRs are expected to be drafted higher than rd 7.

Allar's best WR he played with was Harrison Wallace who transferred to Miss for 25 and is projected to go in Rd 7.

I think Allar's % is pretty good while throwing to a crew of misfit toys.

Still, the point was just to post his actual numbers, which are good. That's probably a surprise to some people who hear nothing but negatives about him.
