100 Best Free Agents

14. Tremaine Edmunds, ILB - anytime a relative of a Steelers player is available, you have to at least consider the team is interested.

44. Ben Powers, G - a young guard who could take over at LG. Dotson is decent, but runs too hot and cold.

50. Germaine Pratt, ILB - I think slash suggested him earlier this offseason. He knows AFC North football.

65. Alex Singleton, ILB - solid in 2020-21, but had a breakout season with Denver this year.

73. Matthew Ioannidis, DL - depth player with anticipation Alualu and Wormley don't return.

UR. Robert Woods, WR - Titans just released him. Veteran presence for a young WR room and fills the need in the slot.

Oh and before I forget Rams are saving some cap by cutting Bobby Wagner soon. He would be an interesting add. But age and cost would obviously factor in.

While I’m not sure we will be active In early UFA, Here is who i think we might target on that list

Fletcher Cox… because we have shown great interest in the past and tend to chase older names we like (Like WJ3) even if they are over the hill or in decline

Marcus Peters…recovering from injuries drove down his production (and price) last year… we are really familiar with him… could be a Larry Ogunjobi type signing once Sutton flies the coup

Jacoby Brisset…. Lots of experience with Canada and a picture perfect backup QB

Terrell Edmunds…. The guy we are most likely to resign since he should be lower on the starting safety pecking order ….

I would look at Alex Singleton. Tackling machine. Got full time snaps and made the most of it. Yes he’s 29....but if the price is right would add stability for the next 2 years while we groom someone younger. He makes plays.

Another thing I might add. Both Sutton and Edmunds have really gotten a lot of good press in the media. I think both of them will get offers that might surprise. Seems to be an assumption that we offer contracts they will gleefully sign. Can you imagine how things would change if they both leave.

My FA strategy would be to try to keep the following Steelers with options if you cannot in parenthesis: Sutton (Ya Sin), Edmunds (Love), Spillane (Vander Esche), Larry O (Rankins). Based on the top 100 those are all legitimate replacement in talent and cost for those that walk with the only big upgrade being Vander Esche in my opinion. Rest of the holes and upgrades would need draft plug and play picks.
* correction not sure if Vender Esche is an upgrade and why he is on list and not Spillane.

With ILB you could dump Jack save 8m, sign Bobby Spillane to a reasonable three year deal, use the difference elsewhere, Draft a Jack Campbell or similar in second. That makes three fighting for two with Robinson in the mix. You would save between Jack's 8 and Spillane probably 4 or 5 to push elsewhere.

#79 Darious Slayton WI
Spotrac puts his value at 2-years 7 million. I would JUMP at that deal. His best year was his rookie season with a washed up Eli Manning. He has been consistent since but the horrible QB can't be understated. This year Slayton lead the team with receiving yards at 724. Yep. I feel you put him outside on go routes and bring DJ in on 3 WR sets and you really have something as Slayton averages 15 ypc career and is a legit sub 4.4 guy. At 26 you could get him for the best 2-3 years of his career at a reasonable price. Maybe throw some incentives at him to keep him motivated.

#67 Leighton Vander Esch ILB
Not sure what he is going to ask but he's been above par every year since being drafted. I would take him for what we are paying Jack in a heartbeat.

#50 Germaine Pratt ILB
Would have been my pick in 2019 at #66 in my mock along mock I do every year. I personally don't see how the Bengals with all that cash don't re-sign him. But who knows.

#14 Tremaine Edmunds ILB
Lots of ILB available this year. If we can ink Terrell I feel like we can get Tremaine for a reasonable price. Not sure if we will ink Edmunds quite yet.

Here are guys not on that list I would target.

QB- Blaine Gabbert
He spent the last few years learning underneath Brady and in his limited play has really looked much more accurate and confident. If you look at his SPARQ he really was quite the prospect. Height 74th, weight 87th, arm length 80th, hand size 80th, 40 time 88th, vert 75th, bj 89th, shuttle 69th and those are for percentiles. Guy is quite the athlete and coming out of high school was one of the highest graded QB's in the country. I think his time with Brady has really helped him the preparation part of the game and maybe since he has been a backup for many years now he would embrace that roll with young Pickett.

WR- Olamide Zaccheaus would make a nice slot guy if DJ won't move inside. In Atlanta with that QB room he had 40 catches on 61 targets with 533 yards and 3 tds from the slot. If he could match that production with us it would be a vast improvement. And would give CA3 some competition.

TE- Josh Oliver has cut himself out a nice niche as a blocker when he came in as that being a weakness. I feel he is likely a better pass catcher than his stats indicate but being on a team with some talent in front of him has left his opportunities limited. If Gentry leaves Oliver might be a nice replacement that won't command much in terms of contract guarantees.

LT- Andre Dillard is a former first round pick who was thrust into the starting lineup early and with little success. Injury occurred and Mailata took over the LT position and never looked back. Dillard played no snaps in 2020 but did play 340 in 2021 where he allowed one hurry and one sack in that time. His PFF grade for the season was 69.6 with 71.7 pass blocking and 65.4 run blocking. In 2022 he only played 37 snaps but the eagles had opportunities to trade him and chose not to because of his added value at depth. He graded out at 84.7 pass blocking and 63.1 run blocking in his limited action. I feel a one year deal with some incentives if he plays and plays well could put a nice competition at LT. I honest feel Moore would be best served at guard and signing Dillard would probably prevent us going into the draft needed a starting LT. So even if we drafted a Broderick Jones or Skoronski we would not be forced to play them. They could battle it out in camp and let the best players start.

DL- Andrew Billings would fight right in for our NT position. Was phenomenal in his role last year as a run defender but did actually get 7 hurries and 1 sack with only 216 pass rush atempts. He had 22 stops with 264 run stop players.

ILB- Bobby Okereke is a guy who played a lot of snaps last year and did well both in coverage and run stuffing. He is a better athlete than you would think having one of the better SPARQ scores for a LB in recent memory. He is a legit 4.58 guy. He's also probably not going to break the bank while giving the team a plug and play backer.

CB- Sean Murphy-Bunting has improved each and every year since being drafted in the second round and largely was drafted that early based on physical ability as he tested well in every single category while being 6' 195lbs. He also has seen a steady decline in playing snaps and mostly due to the crowded secondary of the Bucs. I feel like we could snag him reasonably cheap with some incentives in his contract to hopefully have him reach his potential.
