One of the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ most beloved players in recent years, JuJu Smith-Schuster is entering free agency for the second time in his career with the 2021 season coming to a conclusion. Smith-Schuster took the lowest offer he received prior to this season in regards to both money and longevity when he signed a one-year, $8 million deal to remain in Pittsburgh.

Ben Roethlisberger was believed to be entering what could be his final season and this was undoubtedly a huge factor in Smith-Schuster’s decision to remain with the Steelers. Now that the quarterback situation is as good of a guess as anyone’s in Pittsburgh, let’s hope this won’t lead to Smith-Schuster’s departure.

Here are three possible landing spots for the beloved receiver once he officially hits the free agency market:

1) Pittsburgh Steelers

This is what all Steelers fans are hoping for especially after a less than ideal fifth season in which most of Smith-Schuster’s season was cut short due to a shoulder injury which required surgery. Despite his loyalty to the Steelers, the team is in dire need of a quarterback so it’s worth monitoring closely how Smith-Schuster approaches free agency with Roethlisberger entering retirement.

Even though he is entering his sixth season, Smith-Schuster is only 25 years old and could definitely look to rebound after his injury with the team that took him with the 62nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

2) Kansas City Chiefs

KC made a push for JuJu prior to the 2021 season, so there is nothing to believe this prediction is a complete shot in the dark. Ultimately money was not as important as loyalty for Smith-Schuster, stating he would have signed with Kansas City had the Steelers not re-signed him prior to the 2021 season. Smith-Schuster took the lowest offer in regards to money and longevity when he signed the deal to remain in Pittsburgh.

The offer likely stands if the Chiefs were to pursue him again considering outside of tight end Travis Kelce, their receiving corps is filled with speedsters. KC is home to one of the league’s most potent, pass-heavy offenses, so there would presumably be plenty of targets for Smith-Schuster.

3) Green Bay Packers

If JuJu were to jump into the ideal spot, it would likely be in Green Bay, but that comes with two big ‘if’s.’ Will Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams be back with the Packers? If in fact these two return to Green Bay, Smith-Schuster would provide reliability in the passing game amongst a receiving corps that has been a bit questionable outside of Adams.

This scenario would be fantastic for any pass-catcher if the cards were to fall in place in regards to Rodgers and Adams, but there are a lot of things that can go wrong that make this situation very cloudy for the time being.
