The 2022 NFL Draft is over, and the Pittsburgh Steelers now shift their focus towards OTA’s, rookie minicamp, minicamp, and training camp. The Steelers did a fine job filling big weaknesses throughout the draft, and I believe they had a solid draft overall. This team, though, is currently not a Super Bowl contender, and they still have several roster holes they need to address on both sides of the ball. Now, they did improve this offseason, but there are still a few places where the Steelers must improve in order to compete in a stacked AFC North, as well as the AFC as a whole.
In this article, I discuss the top three positions they need to fill, as well as possible options.
This is, without a doubt, the most critical position for Pittsburgh to fill. Although Pittsburgh has Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland, to complement Najee Harris, they need to acquire a more capable RB2. Since they did not draft a running back, Pittsburgh will have to rely on free agency to find an RB2. Pittsburgh needs to find either a pass-catching back, or they could just sign someone who can carry the load if Harris were to miss any playing time. Fortunately for them, there are a number of viable solutions available right now. With training camp approaching, they should be able to sign one of these guys at a reasonable price. Not only does this provide Pittsburgh another weapon out of the backfield, but this also helps prolong Harris’ career and helps keep him fresh as the game wears on.
Potential Options: Sony Michel, Mike Davis, Phillip Lindsay, Tarik Cohen

Pittsburgh doesn’t have a pressing need for a cornerback, but given that they didn’t draft one, they should look for affordable experienced options on the market. They won’t be able to find a CB1 this late in the free agency process, but they might be able to find a veteran to come in and lead a young CB room. Maybe a reunion with Joe Haden is in the works, or they might go with Chris Harris who has a ton of experience. There are a variety of viable options available to Pittsburgh, none of which will come at a significant cost.

Now you’re probably thinking I should have gone WR or OL here. Those are two places where Pittsburgh could still make a move this offseason. However, I believe that DL, particularly DT, is a greater need, and here’s why. Pittsburgh had one of the league’s worst, if not the worst, run defenses. Sure, bringing back Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu helps, but there are questions regarding Tuitt’s future, and Alualu is coming off a season-ending injury, so there’s a chance they don’t play or don’t perform as well as they have in the past. Pittsburgh must sign a defensive tackle who excels in run defense. They’re set on pass-rushing D-linemen, but I believe they’re missing a genuine NT who can come in and take on blocks and help them improve their dreadful run defense.
Potential Options: Akiem Hicks, Nick Williams, Eddie Goldman, Linval Joseph

Who should the Steelers sign now that the draft has passed? What do you feel are still the team’s biggest needs post-draft? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
