The Pentagon is deploying 300 airmen and 12 A-10 combat jets to the Middle East in early October, according to the Indiana Air National Guard.

The six-month deployment from the 122nd Fighter Wing is not specifically part of President Obama’s fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, but the airmen and jets could provide air support to troops battling ISIS on the ground.

12 of the 21 A-10 combat jets flown by the Fort Wayne base would be part of the deployment.

Love those warthogs. I was lucky enough to see one up close a few years ago. Great plane.
 
nothing gave me a warm and fuzzy like the scream of a warthog overhead when i was out on missions/convoys during deployments. With those 30mm cannons its about the best damn close-combat air support you could get, taliban knew better than to be out and about when those bad johnsons were circling in the skies

If Haji sees a Warthog barreling down on him, he best get on his knees and ask God for forgiveness......his survival being in serious question.
 
I don't understand why anyone would want to get rid of it. It's the best close air support fighter ever made. It's basically a flying tank. Makes no sense to me.

CAS is not sexy the Air Scouts want F35s.
 
Just pray ISIS (or whatever they are calling the badguys) don't have portable SAM's, we don't need any downed Airmen.

The F35 is a clusterfuck from what I remember. I have nothing against new technology, however, the A-10 is still perfect for what we need it for.

Its a clusterfuck because it was rushed and the contractor underbid what it would really cost to develop. The Wing Wipers want the money from older systems to go to other things in their budget like the F35. Its how the game is played.
