How much can you really learn about a team’s chances for the next season when the odds are published a week or so after Super Bowl Sunday? Most fans would probably say there is little point in worrying about what the sportsbooks say in February, as things could look a lot different by September — especially for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Still, sports betting platforms do release odds for the new season as soon as one Super Bowl ends, and they don’t just pluck the odds out of thin air. They use actuary to assess not just where teams are now, but where they will be a year from now. Of course, sportsbooks can get it badly wrong, and they have done so many times in the past, but let’s have some fun.

Steelers considered longshots

Nonetheless, at the time of writing, the Steelers have been given odds of 50/1 (+5000) on average to win Super Bowl LVII. Bettors might be aware that those odds are similar to the ones given to the Steelers at the beginning of last season. In short, bookmakers believe the Steelers’ chances are remote at this point, even if they did sneak into the Wild Card Playoffs in mid-January.

Of course, things can change. Pittsburgh arguably won’t have the kind of offseason that Tampa Bay did a couple of years ago when Tom Brady arrived, but certain moves could make a real difference. It’s been remarked here on SteelersNation.com that snapping up Aaron Rodgers would be a literal gamechanger for Pittsburgh. Bookmakers would have no choice but to slash those odds.

But speculating about someone like Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh is not cutting it with sportsbooks, at least for the moment. Until there is some movement in terms of bringing fresh faces into the roster, then that’s where Pittsburgh will remain in the betting markets.

Chiefs are current favorites

If you were wondering, it is the Kansas City Chiefs who have once again been given the nod as early market leaders going into the new season, although, as we said, things could change. It marks the third consecutive offseason the Chiefs have spent time as the betting favorite for the Super Bowl. Their current odds are +650, with the Buffalo Bills and defending champion Los Angeles Rams seen as their closest rivals by bookmakers.

The Cincinnati Bengals, as you might expect, have the shortest odds for any AFC North team (around +1200). The Baltimore Ravens are coming in at +2000, with the Cleveland Browns at +3500.

It looks like it will be a tough division to get out of in 2022/23. But as we said, a lot can change over the next six months.
