If you follow all of Pittsburgh sports and are a big NFL fan, you already know just how good Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams truly is.

From his college days at Pitt, to now being a 3x AP Defensive Player of the Year Award winner, Donald has already cemented himself as one of the best to ever do it.

Pittsburgh Steelers‘ fans can also easily acknowledge just how good Donald has been, despite him controversially winning the DPOY Award over the Steel City’s very own, TJ Watt, on numerous occasions. Watt has now led the league in sacks two years in row, and even went on to tie the NFL’s single-season sack record in 2021, joining New York Giants‘ great, Michael Strahan at 22.5.

With all of the impressive stats both Donald and Watt share, one could easily argue that either player is not only the best defensive player in the league, but the best player, period. Monday, it was really cool to see Donald express exactly how he felt about his defensive “equal” in Watt as he addressed the media ahead of Super Bowl Sunday:

“A lot of great defensive players that have the stats. You know, you got a guy like TJ Watt that got all them stats this year and it made a lot of production in a short amount of time, and he only played, you know — [he didn’t play] every single game this year. That’s a guy you can talk like, he can probably be an MVP this year.”

Coming from the reigning DPOY, this is really good stuff. Clearly the respect is there from Donald, and even he is aware of just how good Watt truly is.

After hitting a huge payday this past off-season and becoming the league’s highest paid defensive player, Watt will look to continue to lead Pittsburgh’s defense for years to come. And maybe, just maybe, that road continues this week as he looks to win his first AP DPOY Award.
