Good find B & G Bleeder, thanks for posting

First 1/3 article is pretty good but then is transgesses into a puff piece of author listening to his own words.

AB is cicil suit ordered to pay 1.2 mil to the truck driver he smacked around in 2020.

AB brings this on himself and no empathy from me.

I wonder how many other civil suits are out there ?

Also NOTE: AB never showed up for any of the court dates.

So how do those settlements work, they have a certain amount of the to pay before possible jail time?

Since they have the judgment, they can move on to collection of that. Unless AB cuts a check, it will be another legal process to locate assets, and then they will have to attach and take possession. Very probably, this guy gets little of that award because AB probably does not have findable/attachable assets, if he has any.
I'm sure Steeltime will be by here to clarify, unless he is conflicted on this action.

This is a civil judgment (not something like taxes or white-collar crime etc). So, as noted above, they can proceed with attempting to collect. However, there is no potential for jail time. No more debtors' prison.

But they can garnish?
Garnish what? He’s unemployed.
In my previous career I was 7-0 representing myself in court, suing people who owed me money. Only got paid 2 of those 7 times though, of course we’re talking about a lot less money. One I did put a lien on the guy’s house and the other was enough money to be a 3rd degree felony. The others it would have cost more than I was owed to pursue.

What is the cut off point for being not worth it to pursue funds through the court system..... say $5000.00 USD or so ?

on a side note can I borrow $4999.00 RON ............I promise to put it towards the exiling Canada fund

Depends what they owe you. In my case to go from the magistrate to county court I was looking at at least $500, not worth it when they owe you $300. Now you can attach your legal fees also but if I couldn’t get $300 I didn’t like the chances of getting $800 or more. Thing is, your deadbeat customers know this. I would just take my judgement to a collection agency and if didn’t get paid in a year then I’d write it off on my taxes. I’d still rather get paid though.

Im not on ******** side. But feels like a lottery. Like if he isn't permanently injured 1.2 million dollars. I'd take it so long as I'm not seriously hurt for that much for sure.

I wonder how much I can get if I sell my signed AB jersey???

I know a guy who can get you a 1st round draft pick for it but, you'll have to wait till the trade dead line is over...........................

Really sucks how he turned out. I remember him signing my kids football or jersey 3-4 years in a row at training camp. Ran into him at Dinos once. very nice guy.
