After rewatching this game it is even more surprising the Steelers won

KP was behind guys all night, except the one pass to Pickens

TE were no where to be seen, maybe two targets

OL gets no push at all.

Kenny had time on several plays to find the right guy and he still made some terrible decisions - the pick and the pass to the defender who was covering Najee when the announcers tried to say he was throwing it away

Harvin had an excellent night punting and as stryker points out, his holds on the FGs and extra points likely greatly aided at least 7 points

TJ and HIghsmith were beasts.

I watched a lot of the drives a few times to see who was in on the bigger running plays at ILB. Most of the best runs Roberts was on the sideline. He was out there for Fords big run but he played it well and was out in front of him which helped force the reversal of field by Ford. Wallace played it terribly and really should have hit Ford before he got past the LOS

Roberts filled the hole well on the the first GL play the second one where they scored was well designed and executed. The guard blocks down, the tackle and TE block to the outside leaving a big hole which both Holcomb and Roberts rush to fill. The RG pulled and blocks Holcomb and an OL playing FB gets enough of Roberts to let the RB slip past. if the safety had filled the hole quicker it might have been stopped

198 yards rushing sucks. but 69 were on one play, other than that they were so so at stopping the rush

but I still feel they are better at it with Roberts in the game, but maybe Alexander gives them more in the passing game

trading the farm for watson is going to come and bite the stains in the ***. he was bad. very bad if wallace didn't stink on ice it would have been worse for him.

not going to mention a certain oc or the stupid ******* call on 3rd and 1 at the end of the game

the offense HAS to get better

but if Defense wins championships......there is a chance

It's criminal how much the Steelers have underutilized the TE position over the years.

Kenny was what 50 percent completion rate. He is going to need to reverse his inaccuracies and quickly.

He has been bad overall, but he and Pickens started to develop a connection as the Browns game went on.

It could be something to build on, but they need to get Freiermuth more involved and start running the ball like they did the second half of last season to make things easier on Kenny.

Kenny needs to show more quickly, but he still has a few plays a game that make you think there might be more there. Whatever it might be, I'm not sure he has the coaching to get it out of him.

A big problem I see with the Steelers offense right now is that they have an OL based on power, but Tomlin and Canada approach the offense like they have a finesse line with all the passes, stretch runs and gadgets.

It really felt like the running game was more "straight ahead" as it had success toward the end of last season.

Jones brings the kind of athleticism the Steelers think they have up front, but they're not playing him.

On pickett in specific… The pick came off of an early scripted play again… the guy who made the pick read it from the get go. Hard to say if he read picketts eyes or just recognized tge formation and reads.
They were putting 10 men in the box then dropping 6 to 7 guys back in coverage religiously .. after the pick, Pickett was second guessing his reads, making his throws late… you can’t do that.

That throw after the half was him trying to recreate the throw he won the Ravens game last year with. That was way too tight a window and the defender was in better position… tgat was a bad decision..

All of this regression… the mechanics, the decision making … its all easily fixed… but it all is also the signs of mismanaging a young QB.
Its going to be just like with the zillions of ilbs we have brought in or James Conner at RB… people will think we need another premium RB, or Ilb, but it won’t matter who comes in, because the issue isn’t the talent… its the philosophical issue and scheme..

Its like with fixing tge run game… it’s been broken ever since Tomlin decided he wanted a relentless pass rush from the DL… they are supposed to stop the run on the way to the QB… it doesn’t work very well and we get burned unless we get magnificent individual efforts from all the players every play… getting better players at ilb isn’t going to fix that…

Overhauling the coaching staff fixes that…

Exactly what I saw... on the Gunner fumble, Gunner was standing there wide open, and Kenny hesitated before throwing it. That hesitation gave the defender time to charge at Gunner when the ball was in the air and blast him.

The problem is going to be that regardless of whom they get in here… if they find Mahomes 2.0… the base philosophy of the offense isn’t going to work. The goal is to nickel and dime down the field every drive… that gets upended by one negative play.
The qb will feel the heat to force offense and after a few bad decisions will start second guessing themselves.

This is a mess of the head coaches making. He needs to let the conservative BS go. Its a dead philosophical approach to the NFL. Be aggressive and **** turnovers… your D will be better playing with a lead regardless

You're wrong. Tomlin knows what you don't, and he's right. Just enjoy the standard.

I see what you're saying. and its spot-on.
i believe the current philosophy is to try and emulate what we had back when Ben was just a kid. However, that OL didnt need coaching up. I don't think this one does, either, but it seems they're following the "coaching" they're receiving and blocking how they're told to block.

if firing the OL coach would help, then fire the dude. if the offensive woes continue, keep moving up the chain.

Nice write up Coolie. A couple things…. Kenny looks like he’s playing scared. I’m obviously a big Kenny fan and not making excuses for him because he has had two bad games but he looks out of sync and his timing is off because he’s playing scared. In both games been sacked numerous times, hit and hurried numerous times which I think is throwing him off his game. Our OL has stunk unable to run block and provide a running game. The play calling is a total joke, completely underutilizing our TE.
On defense Levi Wallace looks bad, real bad. Our run defense not good. The holes open up in the middle were huge. Why not call up run stuffer Fehoko? Just sayin!
