This draft in my opinion is arguably the most important in Steelers history. The team has a franchise QB that is in the back half of his career and there is a window in the next 5 years to perhaps snag one last Lombardi before Ben rides off for what will eventually be a spot in Canton. Troy is another who has just a couple really good years left before he finishes his hall of fame career. The team has lost a ton of veterans but has done a decent job in free agency getting younger, but the fact remains that the Steelers have not done very well at all in the draft the past few years. The jury is out on Jarvis Jones but to be honest, I'm not impressed. The Landry Jones pick was horrendous, Mike Adams is average at best, etc. My point is this....this draft is just HUGE! The Steelers get some impact players and we could contend these next few years, if they whiff it could get ugly in a hurry. Is anyone out there with me? Is this draft going to be the difference between contenders and sub .500 seasons? I really see it that way....thoughts?

Not sure it's the most important in Steelers history but it is very important. For me this draft is important because the Tomlin/Colbert team needs to show they can draft more than "average" players. Also you're being too kind to say Adams is average. He's horrible at LT and had to be paired with Gilbert just to nail down the RT position.

Definitely not the most important draft in Steelers history. But the roster has some big holes and is thin in most areas....thankfully this is one of the deepest drafts in a long time (per Colbert) because we need to come away with both quantity and quality.

Deep at a lot of the right positions at the right time, which certainly plays in their favor.

Every draft is important. This one will go a long way in tilting us one way or another. We need to capitalize on having a franchise QB now.

This draft is important because Tombert needs to draft players that survive their rookie contracts. Baby steps.

IMHO, if they don't ace this draft and break 10 wins, they're toast.

I'd say this is the biggest one we've had since we drafted Ben. Getting him made all this debate possible, we'd still be muddling along with some second string scrub as our starter if we hadn't snagged him. Let's hope this year is one for the books, in a good way. :)

LOL @ "Tombert."

I'm so using that going forward.

Now?

The last two years didn't count?

I think the 1974 draft was the most important

Even if they ace this draft it doesn't mean 10 wins this year. Anybody that thinks a couple of rookies are going to come in at CB, WR etc.. and take them to the next level this year is on crack. I also don't think Tombert is going anywhere unless they only win 2 games this year. Not sure that would be enough. IMHO Rooney will ride with them at least 2 more years even at 8-8.

yes

it's time to move UP in the draft and get Mike Evans

I'm all for it.

Steelers get some impact players and we could contend

I was agreeing with the original concept

I don't know what CB can get us 12-14 TD's like we could with a true #1 WR- - - Ben agrees

I have to disagree on moving up for two reasons that tie together. First, although I would love to have Evans, but at what cost? Unless someone were to offer us a ridiculously cheap deal, we would be mortgaging the teams future on one player. It would mostly likely cost us multiple pics this year plus a first round pick next year. Secondly, this is one of the deepest drafts in long time and we need a lot more help than just one player. If this draft was weak all around if be for trading up but, because its chalked full of talent, If possible we should be trying to trade back, not up. Just my humble opinion.

IMHO this is not the draft to move up in. Colbert believes, as do I, that this is a deep draft not necessarily a heavily talent top draft. Stay put or trade down.

what makes you think your precious draft picks will ever amount to anything?......... this isn't Madden

I've watched the Steelers blow entire drafts from top to bottom....the bloom is off the rose.

Ben only has a few good years left....time to put the fear of god into defenses again....we need 30+ points a game to beat the good teams.

git er done

5 WIDE!!!

i've got to agree with this. we've missed WAY too much lately. we need to have one of those 2008 drafts where people thought we did great....actually BE great. they need some young talent so this team doesn't consider moves like "let's bring harrison back". we've laid too many eggs draft day lately

Given Tombert's history, they'll be lucky to find two players who will be bonafide NFL starters in three years.

I agree 100% it seems like the time people say we won't contend we get rings.

1st round - Kyle Fuller 2nd round Cody Latimer or Jordan Matthews

I agree that this draft is very important but what about last years draft? We need to hope Jones, Wheaton Thomas and Williams develop as well as Bell did and then we would have a pretty good draft class to build on this year. All we need is last years class and this years class to develop and bam we get depth/starter relief as well as a nice hit on our salary cap. If last years class steps up this year then there is not as much pressure on this years class, jmo.

What does madden football have anything to do with this year being a deeper draft talent wise?
