Antarctic ice growth caused by warming - er..what about this Arctic growth?

So we've heard the painful contorsions from the warmists trying to explain the expansion of the Antarctic's ice as some magical by-product of global warming. They always point up to the Arctic ice as a better indicator. Well, unsurprisingly, that isn't behaving properly either.

To put it another way, an area the size of Alaska, America’s biggest state, was open water two years ago, but is again now covered by ice.

The most widely used measurements of Arctic ice extent are the daily satellite readings issued by the US National Snow and Ice Data Center, which is co-funded by Nasa. These reveal that – while the long-term trend still shows a decline – last Monday, August 25, the area of the Arctic Ocean with at least 15 per cent ice cover was 5.62 million square kilometres.

This was the highest level recorded on that date since 2006 (see graph, right), and represents an increase of 1.71 million square kilometres over the past two years – an impressive 43 per cent.

Other figures from the Danish Meteorological Institute suggest that the growth has been even more dramatic. Using a different measure, the area with at least 30 per cent ice cover, these reveal a 63 per cent rise – from 2.7 million to 4.4 million square kilometres.

Yes, this is perplexing to some.
Yet for years, many have been claiming that the Arctic is in an ‘irrevocable death spiral’, with imminent ice-free summers bound to trigger further disasters. These include gigantic releases of methane into the atmosphere from frozen Arctic deposits, and accelerated global warming caused by the fact that heat from the sun will no longer be reflected back by the ice into space.

Judith Curry, professor of earth and atmospheric sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, said last night: ‘The Arctic sea ice spiral of death seems to have reversed.’

Too funny.

"The entire North Polar ice cap will be gone!!!’’ AlGore, 2008

Myth of arctic meltdown: Stunning satellite images show summer ice cap is thicker and covers 1.7million square kilometres MORE than 2 years ago...despite Al Gore's prediction it would be ICE-FREE by now

The theory of Global warming has been trendy among some circles since the 1800's. they take the basic principles of gasses and apply them to an extremely complex environment. Its like any other politicized portion of science. Its flawed. there is a projection made based on the theory manmade greenhouse gasses are causing a particular problem. When the projection fails miserable, the conclusions remain the same while the explanation of how changes. There is never any attempt to explore alternative possibilities. Science should not be faith based. None of that means we shouldn't be trying to find better fuel alternatives and cleaner ways to produce power, just that we shouldn't be forcing this down everyones throat before we actually know whats going on...

Right when the Democrats took control of Congress? Coincidence?!!

Sigh, they'll just come up with a new angle, then another one, then another one after each previous attempt begins to look completely bogus. As long as you can scare a large enough population of wealthy twits, you'll keep getting paid. That and that alone is the incentive.

concise summary:
pollution is bad, inefficiency is bad, global warming is idiotic/political.

Like what I said in another thread related to the hiatus. The scientists aren't looking at the models and asking "what else do we not know or have missing from the models?", they are trying to figure out how to keep the theory alive.

of course the northern ice caps are growing, it is summer time. Just wait until winter when it is -20 every day....that is when all of that ******* bullshit made up "deep sea warm water" will all be magically sent to the North Pole and melt all of the ice and kill all of the Polar bears. Dumbasses, do I have to explain everything to you?

I particularly like the last paragraph.....

Computer model predictions of decline caused by ice melt have also failed to come true. In 2004, researchers claimed Hudson Bay bear numbers would fall from 900 to fewer than 700 by 2011. In fact, they have risen to over 1,000.

However, the main international bear science body, the Polar Bear Specialist Group, admits it has no reliable data from almost half of the Arctic, so cannot say whether numbers are falling or rising.

Wait...."admits it has no reliable data from almost half of the Arctic"?
That's akin to sayin', "we have to write something, even if we have to make it up ". Does anybody in this 'global warming' movement know what they are talking about ?

Yeah, when the data isn't what they want to see, all of a sudden they are finding it to be unreliable. It's never unreliable when it lines up with what they want to see - until they get busted.

They are going to have to get back to you on that one. I am guessing that we are drafting a grant to send NASA $890,000,000 to set up infrared satellite images of individual polar bears. Then we will never hear the results because they will find out there are even more than they thought. Either that or the $890 mill will dissapear into a politicians pocket.
