let woirlds walk use that money to sign Justin Houston (KC) and find a viable veteran corner...

tough decision like cutting troy and heath may need to be done as well.....

this of course after signing big ben to his much earned extension....

supposedly salary cap d/t tv revenue sharing will be up to $142-145 million...which helps our cause immensely

what say you guys....

might be able to sign Sean Lee from Dallas for cheap the way McClain has taken over and played in big D

isn't Lee coming off serious injury?

I think the Steelers will have some money to make some moves,

but they are going to have to be better moves than letting a Cotchery and Sanders in the same offseason go,

and filling holes on D with scrubs...............

Sean Lee is ALWAYS coming off an injury.

And you don't cut guys like Heath and Troy, especially if you retain one of the worst head coaches in the league.

I do like the idea of using Worilds' money to chase a free agent pass rusher, I mean a real one.

I don't think this team is back to the old dominance we are accustomed to of the late -mid 2000's. We aren't far off from being a competitive team though. Instead of treating the trenches, both OL & DL, like a secondary pick and making them a bonified serious pick / commitment. Weapons, we have ample weapons on the roster now. Fix LINES first and fore most, but purge a secondary guy in there. YES we have multiple needs, but got to start somewhere. Unfortunately, our current staff, thinks the likes of Archer or what ever flavor of the month, will suffice for now. Just a thought.

yes I agree we need to draft a bonified top tier corner as priority 1st round pick if we do not make the playoffs.....our corners are subpar in todays nfl standards
this staff also has to copycat a little and get a speedy big TE that can line up outside and help open it up for our other receivers....

draft better

You don't cut Troy from 5 years ago. You don't hang onto this version of Troy based upon some hope that somehow he'll reverse time and become THAT Troy again; he won't. It's time to turn the Shark loose. I love Troy, but man his time is up.

We have two first round picks, and two second round picks that were used on the OL. We had two first round picks that were used on DL (both times people bitched about using them on 3-4 DL). Of course Hood was a bad match and left, but the pick was used on the DL. The problem isn't WHERE we are picking these guys, its the guys being picked. Pouncey and DeCastro were good picks, but Adams and Gilbert leave A LOT to be desired. Heyward is finding his role and is playing well, Tuitt has the look of a solid player for us. One GOOD pick on the OL (don't care what round it comes in) and a NT and the trenches look a lot better than they did.

Troy isn't a liability, and "shark" has been hurt. Troy will retire before he gets cut. No reason to cut Heath as he was never a fast guy, and he still has some of the best hands on the team. Just need someone, ANYONE behind him.

Moving on from Worilds seems to be an easy decision for us, but the FO may not see it that way. Our luck, he'll explode the last four games of the season and get signed to a Woodley like contract. Even if we do move on from Worilds after the season, I don't see the Steelers going after anyone like Houston in FA.

Troy was the best defensive back in the NFL for several years. I still remember the game against San Diego maybe ten years ago where he was assigned to cover Antonio Gates. That was Troy's job. He did such a good job that Gates - who never seems to lose his temper - went off in the 4th quarter and took a swing at Troy.

That Troy is gone. He cannot cover speed receivers any more. He has lost a step. He struggles tackling TE's. He is out of position too much. He is just not a player worth what he is due to be paid.

It is a gut-wrenching thought, but this is Troy's last season, IMO. Stoney makes a really good point that Troy is important to the Steelers as a leader, particularly given the lack of leadership from the HC, but the Steelers just don't have the cap space or ability to keep Troy next year.

Troy is noticeably slower and has been out of position more than usual. However, what I wrote was that you don't hang on to THIS version of Troy hoping that he will become THAT version again. I realize that Shamarko has been hurt, and unfortunately it's not like he was receiving ANY snaps at SS when he wasn't hurt; even though by all accounts he is much improved over last year. I guess their plan is to let him rot on the bench this year and throw him into the fire next year without benefit of having received any playing time at SS this year. Sorry, that doesn't make any sense to me. Especially when allowing Shamarko to get some PT would help to keep Troy fresher as the season wears on.

Troy isn't the reason our defense sucks, its the LBs and DLs. Why cut a guy who gave so much to your team when he doesn't even make the list of your top 10 worst defensive players? Money? If you can pay Jason Worilds $10mil to suck, you can pay Troy whatever he is being paid to be something less than he was in the past. He isn't the kind of guy that'll steal from the team, he'll go when he knows its time.

If Troy were a CB, I would agree with the "can't cover" "lost a step" stuff, but he's a safety. And right now he's playing a lot closer to the LOS. He isn't being asked to cover like he was before. You're right in that sense, that Troy is gone. But this Troy isn't what's hurting the defense. What's hurting THIS defense is Worilds, Moats, Harrison, Allen, C. Thomas.
