You save 8 million by cutting Mitch but what do you get for 8 million? Andy Dalton? Is Mitch a problem in the room? Rudolph will be gone for certain. I'm pretty sure Mitch realizes he isn't getting a starters look. You don't have much late draft capital to take a clip board holder third either. Might as well look at the Canadian CFLer Rourke. It's free. Though he looks even douchier than Rudolph.

Rudolph is a FA after the season so he's gone. Trubisky has one more year on his contract so I'd keep him instead of having a second-year Pickett and yet another new guy.

El Masono Rudolfo de la cue bee con backup

Shot I can hold a clip board and workout for how much? I’ll do it for 1/2

No but I know he isn't happy either and lost his job apparently after a lockroom dust off.
I never heard that. All I've heard is Mitch is well liked. And if he is, he'll be back next season unless some team makes an offer we can't refuse.

Mitch ain't getting no offers.

Trubisky has publicly said the right things but you know it irks him that the Steelers drafted a QB in the first and then after some argument in the locker room with Butterhands Johnson coach T dumped him for the rookie. I wouldn't doubt he asks to be released after the season. There's a half a dozen teams that will be in the market for a QB and I feel both Rudolph and Trubisky both jump to the Saints, Giants, Washington, Panthers, Colts, Houston. And to a lesser extent Pats, Jets, and 49ers. Lots of opportunity. A couple will be ate up in the draft but that still leaves a lot of teams in need for a starting QB.

Guys I would look for if we can convince them to be a backup with the outside shot at starting due to injury or potentially bad play would be Garner Minshew. Classic overperformer who imo is better than 14 starters in the NFL right now. Mike White. I don't see how they don't bring him back unless they sign someone to be the starter. He throws some risky balls which leads to too many INT's but he has the arm to fit things in tight spaces. I think if you get his decision making in check he could be a very good spot starter. Jacoby Brissett is probably better than a half a dozen NFL starters if not more. He probably wants to go somewhere to start so I doubt we get him. Blaine Gabbort is nothing more than an NFL backup. But for a spot starter and for his 1.5m price tag he is more than serviceable. Of course leaving the nice Florida weather and no state income might dictate a few more dollars to make it worth it.

I expect Mitch is not done seeing if he can find a starting job to fight for. If he were willing to take a pay cut (which I don't expect), he could be the guy. That being said, I believe that, if Rudolph wants the backup job (and he may not, may want a chance to see if he can sign elsewhere with a chance to start first) it is likely his for the taking. Without assuming that is a good or bad choice, we do know the Steelers' proclivities for sticking with players they know.
