Beau Bennett gone. Traded for a 3rd round pick.

Hope the Devils have a good health plan - Shero got him back. BB just couldn't stay healthy and I still think he has talent. Wish him good luck and pick is fine.
Also frees up 800K in cap room.

#Pens GM Rutherford on Bennett trade: With number of young guys we had we felt it was time to give him a change. He'll prob do well

Pens use Bennet trade to pick up D Connor Hall in 3rd

I'm assuming this is that off season thread now, so

What's this, another false flag?

Fleury to start '16-17 with Pens

Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to start the 2016-17 season with Pittsburgh, according to Sportsnet's John Shannon.
He received the news from Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford. Fleury's name has come up in plenty of trade rumors

Fleury will be gone next season. Matt Murray is the future in net. Fleury is a hall of fame goalie, and cause of him the Pens got the needed wins. As for Beau, when healthy he was a stud. But he's the Shazier of the Pens. Produces when he can and back on the sidelines

The first pick being a goalie is very interesting, and telling. On the other hand, the Pens need to restock their depleted farm system.

Fascinating

BPA, Top-ranked European goalie in the draft

Pens Inside Scoop @PensInsideScoop
Gustavsson: Very good at getting low and absorbing shots, no rebounds. Great flexibility and quick post-post -SK

Gustavsson was ranked 20th overall by @daredlinereport: "Calm demeanor in net gives whole team confidence" -SK

Rutherford on taking goalie in 2nd rnd: We had that goalie rated highest in the draft. Surprised he was there. Couldn't pass on him -SK

You can never have enough good goalies, eh? Who knows what our G situation will be like 4 years from now.

Pens Inside Scoop @PensInsideScoop
Rutherford on Bjorkqvist: Our Euro scouts loved his play. Leaning Dman, but they felt so adamant about him. Good all-around center -SK

Pick was originally sent to Toronto for Daniel Winnik, then re-obtained last summer in the Kessel deal.

Bob McKenzie ✔ @TSNBobMcKenzie
PIT trades Beau Bennett to NJ for 77th pick, taken Connor Hall with the pick. Hall was No. 71 on TSN list.

Pens Inside Scoop @PensInsideScoop
.@daredlinereport on Hall: "Tough as nails. Loves to fight and throw bombs." I think Pittsburgh will love this kid -SK

Good. I am still interested to see how Murray plays when guys are laying out to block every shot that comes their way. Defense plays quite a bit looser during the regular season.

I also noticed on some of the reports that the Pens drafted for a lot of toughness. Curious given they just won the Cup with speed and skill.

He didn't say Fleury is going to end the season with us. I could see why JR wanting to go into the season with Fleury, but moving him mid season. Anything can still happen.

Speaking of farm system. WBS or Pittsburgh needs to look into Cody Wydo from the Wheeling Nailers. Similar to Conor Sheary in terms of speed/stick handling. I think he'd look great for WBS.

They simply needed room for Simon, who should have been called up last year. Bennett will probably work things out away from the pens terribad medical staff

everyone and their moms just overvalued speedy smaller players because 3 of the 4 final teams were speed teams. the value was with traditional defensive defensemen... it rolls in cycles... letang was a third rounder... hed have been a top 10 pick if he came out five years later... you find the potential trends and jump on the value picks... most of those guys have puck moving upside at least

Something tells me this is going to be the shortest offseason thread ever. Prepare for a quiet summer. Enjoy The Cup.

The Pens are right up against the Cap. They cannot make a move to shore up the top six, or to sign anyone of significance

Trading Fleury at the draft to someone he would agree to go to, the Pens would have an extra $5.75 million to work with to strengthen other areas of the team....but Calgary was the only one in desperate need of a starting goalie and they just picked up Elliott from the Blues.

Rumor is Pens wanted #6 overall for Fleury and Flames said no.

In other news.

Stamkos free agency

The Maple Leafs, Sabres and Red Wings all look best positioned to pry him from Lightning

At 12:01 a.m. ET Friday night, mere hours after the first round of the NHL Entry Draft wrapped up, general managers from opposing teams could officially reach out to Steven Stamkos. They can't offer him a contract yet, but their recruitment can begin in earnest. If he remains unsigned by Tampa on July 1, he'll be free to do whatever he wants as a free agent.

For Stamkos, his options will be many. Choosing among them will be anything but easy, with a number of factors to consider. That said, it is extremely rare in today's NHL to see a free agent of Stamkos' caliber hit the open market.

It is a foregone conclusion that Flower will leave us. He will most probably be gone a month into the season, due to injury or some over reaction to a bad goalie start.

I have a Flower name t-shirt. I will be sad when he leaves.

Minnesota Buys Out Final Year of Thomas Vanek's Contract

Do it

1 yr / 1 million to the Pens!

I'd really like you guys to try and make more threads for Pens news. Maybe we can get other guys to join in that way. That's why I've been seperating the posts.

Thanks.

YOU guys?

there's a half dozen of us that ever post here

and...just not much news

Yah I know there isn't a ton of news. If we are generating topics though we could drive up the popularity of the forum. Possibly get some more Penguin first fans like MTC.

I don't think you can MAKE hockey fans out of Steelers fans - the Cup bandwagon has already had it's parade

But if you sack Supe and give me his mod key I could probably squeeze out a few hundred more threads

We need D

Justin Schultz doesn't get QO, becomes UFA

Justin Schultz did not get a qualifying offer from Pittsburgh.

He can test unrestricted free agency now, but still could sign with the Penguins for less than the $3.9 million he earned last year. Schultz skated in 18 regular-season games and 15 playoff matches with Pittsburgh in 2015-16 after he was acquired from Edmonton.

The good news is we won't make many changes to our roster.
The bad news is we won't make many changes to our roster.

You rang? Lol. What ya need? Slow off season Pens wise. Given my log in times too. Spike usually beats me to it. Just let me know what you need and I'll comply

If ya need us to spread the word---I'll try. I have to agree with Spike. Not much hockey fans

I think Shultz will be back. His D play compliments speedy teams but there are not much speedy teams away from the Pens or Tampa. Would Edmonton want him back? Buffalo maybe. I can see Bylsma going after some Pens FA

Scraping the bottom of the barrel for news here...

Saskatoon Blades @BladesHockey
.@penguins invited Cameron Hebig to development camp this week. Hebs wants to 'make the most of the opportunity.' All the best, Cam!

Could be an interesting pick up I guess. WBS and Wheeling need players too. Could stick him with a Sundqvist and see if anything clicks.
