If you turn on the national media and listen to the “experts” ramble on about how Ben Roethlisberger is the weak link in on the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, you might just miss that he is not just carving out his place among the greatest quarterbacks in all-time NFL lore, but he is also quietly currently moving up a list of to rank in the top 20 all-time for a 3rd time.

With two touchdown passes to Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth on Monday Night Football, Roethlisberger advanced his consecutive games with a TD pass to 23. This currently has him sitting at a tie for 24th all-time. When Patrick Mahomes failed to tally a TD pass in Week 7, his streak of 31 games ended, thus making Roethlisberger’s the longest active streak in the NFL.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger finds Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth to extend streak to 23.

Roethlisberger can match his second highest streak of 26 consecutive games (18th all-time) vs. the Cincinnati Bengals in three weeks. That streak ended in the Week 1 matchup vs. the New England Patriots, the game before his elbow required surgery. One cannot help but wonder if the elbow did not suffer damage, could Roethlisberger have continued and combined these two consecutive streaks together – which at 49 would put him only 5 shy of the all-time record held by Drew Brees.

Roethlisberger’s career best of consecutive games with a TD is 30 games, good for 18th all-time and wouldn’t it be fitting for him to eclipse Mahomes by the very year that he was surpassed, with potentially reaching 31 vs. the Cleveland Browns and passing him vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

When talking about the best ever QBs to have the ball when you need a 4th quarter comeback or game winning drive, Roethlisberger’s name is rarely mentioned. However, that injustice deserves more recognition. With the drive to lead the Steelers back against the Chicago Bears on MNF, Roethlisberger tied Tom Brady with his 50th game winning drive (4th all-time) and his 38th 4th quarter comeback (3rd all-time).

While Big Ben may not be able to move around the pocket and launch it like he once did, he certainly can make the heady play and not succumb to pressure in those final two minutes of a game and his four game-winning drives is tied for first on the season in 2021. If you thought the game was over when the Bears took a late 1-point lead with 1:47, you should take a second to realize just how clutch Ben has been his entire career. He even commented on how the Bears “left him too much time.” He looked so in his element and even having fun, it’s almost impossible to believe he won’t give the Steelers a fighting chance in a close game.

While it doesn’t feel like Big Ben will have another 500-yard passing game anytime soon as he has only 1,986 yards (in large part due to the heavy reliance on Najee Harris), he is well on pace to secure #5 all-time in passing yards, needing only 1,108 yards to surpass Philip Rivers and he is currently on pace to do so against the Baltimore Ravens in Heinz Field, something that would garner special recognition from a grateful Steeler Nation crowd in Pittsburgh.

While the most important milestone would be that elusive 3rd Super Bowl, don’t count it out because the Steelers are winning ugly. Often all it takes is a great defensive effort and timely passing to get it done, particularly in an AFC that has no dominant team at the forefront. There’s been more than a few years in which the only thing preventing the Steelers from the Super Bowl was timely QB play, and Big Ben still certainly brings it.

Everyone keeps saying how bad he played against the Bears yet he completed something like 70% of his passes, had 2 TD's with a 111 passer rating and he had his 50th career come from behind drive to win the game. And, apparently, the "underthrow" to Washington was actually caused by the defender getting a hand on the ball. This actually turned out to be a good thing because if he threw it deeper, it very well may have been intercepted as another receiver and multiple defenders were converging.

1st ballot hall of famer. everyone knows it. even the Ravens and Pats fans
No doubt. He is in the top 5 or 6 in many of the top statistical categories. He has 2 rings and 1 other trip to a SB. There is no doubt he is a 1st ballot even if Marsha retires the same year he does. Many have said they would only put one QB in at a time but I say BS. If Marsha hangs them up this year with Ben, they both go in as 1st ballot HOFers.

Ben's a gamer. Always has been. If they can get to the formula they used his rookie year and have him throw 20 to 25 times a game while the running game becomes more and more dominant, they're going to have a fighting chance.

Any gameplan that has him throwing 60 times to receivers 3 yards downfield is, imo, a doomed gameplan.

And for the love of ******* God, can you let him run the no-huddle / muddle-huddle more often?

not bad at all for a game manager

seriously he is one of the most under appreciated players ever

You and I both know his history at Millagevill but we also know about the unanimous vote against the CBA with the statement of it gives the commissioner to much sole power.

Which of the two was/has been the Most influence in Ben's negativity ?

I think the "rog" effect has been most influential on the overall Ben persona. "rog" painted continously negative STEELERS stuff and media / public followed. Add in the "GREATNESS" factor of BEN and it was easy to get negativity from the public, everybody hates a winner (when steered to).

Before anyone goes off on a t*mmyb*y comparison on everybody hates a winner you have to remember Br*dy doesn't fall in that catagory as he was/is a CHEATER and that falls in to the "bad-boy" catagory and everybody (in MASShole land) loves the bad boy mantra.

Ben just put himself in the middle of a perfect storm.

Crazy Tahoe chick who decided if he was going to jilt her, she was going to **** with his life, followed by young dumb & drunk (sadly both Ben AND the girl from Millegeville.) Those two messes in close succession lead to a vindictive NFL and commissioner choosing to take advantage of the opportunity to punish a team that didn't "back" him and the final nail in the coffin? Dan Rooney being the compromising statesman and telling Ben to sit down and take his medicine for the good of the league.

Well. Ben did sit down and "take his medicine" and that was effectively seen as an admission of guilt by EVERYONE who hadn't taken the time to read the actual details and reports about what happened both in Tahoe and Millegeville and resultantly, Ben was labeled, enduringly, as "That Guy". And he's NEVER been able to shake it.

You look at Ray. He ******* KILLED a couple guys and he denied that **** till the sun went down. Ray is LOVED. He's the ******* greatest thing since sliced bread because he managed to avoid the stigma of having admitted culpability.

rayray also had antler dust to help convince those who needed convincing. (lotSA money to exchange under the table)

Thank you Benjamin Roethlisberger. You will always be revered...
Paul Revered ???

Four years after his midnight ride, Paul Revere served as commander of land artillery in the disastrous Penobscot Expedition of 1779. ... Charged with cowardice and insubordination, Revere was court-martialed and dismissed from the militia. (He was acquitted in 1782, but his reputation remained tarnished.)Apr. 16, 2013

242 years from now Ben will still be tarnished in the media ...... probably Shannon Sharpe and Cris Carter's relatives leading the charge
