BREAKING – Keith Butler Will Retire

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator for 2022.


Current defensive coordinator Keith Butler has informed the team he will indeed retire.

#Steelers DC Keith Butler informed the team he is retiring, per sources.

Butler played 10 NFL seasons and was an assistant for 23 more, including 19 in Pittsburgh, where he was part of two Super Bowl wins. A big hole to fill on Mike Tomlin’s staff.

“It is an emotional day as I announce I am retiring from my football coaching career,” said Butler. “I have spent every year since 1990 as a coach in the NFL and the NCAA, but the time is right for me to walk away after a successful career both playing and coaching the game I love.

“I want to thank the Rooney Family, Bill Cowher, Mike Tomlin and all the coaches and players that I have been involved with over my entire coaching career. I look forward to spending more time with my family, whom have been so supportive of me throughout the years. I wish nothing but the best to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I will be cheering them on during my retirement.”

Too bad who is going to pretend to call defense now?

Hard to say good bye to coaches that have spent most their careers in Pittsburgh… they are the Steelers! Ill say this he had the defense ready to play against the chiefs! It’s a defense built to play down hill, with a lead, against teams passing. The offense didn’t keep up their side of the bargain and the chiefs were able to exploit the weak pass defense like teams did all season. Had Big Ben started the game in the hurry up and had he dropped a couple TDs in to go with that pick 6, Butts and Ben could have gone out in style! Good luck coach! I got a hunch hes not really done, just another coach ran off by Tomlin‘s and Art Jrs ineptitude.
