Myles Garrett's 2025 season was already historic enough as is, but the Cleveland Browns star edge rusher has made even more history. Garrett has won Defensive Player of the Year for the 2025 NFL season, unanimously winning the award, it was announced at Thursday's NFL Honors. This is the second time that Garrett has been named Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the ninth player in NFL history to win the award twice. Garrett's first Defensive Player of the Year award win came in 2023. Of course, Garrett made the ultimate case to win the award by breaking the all-time single-season sack record. He logged 23 sacks over 17 games, breaking the record that was previously shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt by a half-sack. Garrett's dominance was on display in a handful of games this season as well. He had three games where he recorded at least three sacks, including a five-sack performance against the AFC champion New England Patriots in October. Garrett's historic season allowed him to beat out a handful of other standout edge rushers for the award. Will Anderson Jr. (Houston Texans), Nik Bonitto (Denver Broncos), Aidan Hutchinson (Detroit Lions) and Micah Parsons (Green Bay Packers) were the other four finalists for the award. The win also comes less than a year after Garrett signed a then-record extension with the Browns. His four-year, $160 million extension, which he signed last March, was the largest contract signed by a non-quarterback in NFL history at the time, paving the way for a few other players to receive rich deals last offseason. The extension also came weeks after Garrett requested a trade. This is a developing story and will be updated.

I can only be honest here, I'm definitely biased toward Watt as a Steeler fan.... But I just don't see how Garrett was awarded 1.5 sacks - 1 sack where Burrow took the dive and then another when Garrett barely laid a hand on a QB already tackled near the goal line by another Browns player. Can't remember the opponent so I'll have to look.

Watt was stripped of 1.5 sacks the year he tied the record (in only 15 games IIRC) to suspect rulings after the game. I think Garrett is one helluva player and would love to have him on my team, his effect cannot be questioned, but when legacies are involved and agendas are played to the public, I have to second guess.
