Cam has a word or two.

I absolutely love Cam, but he has to be seeing the writing on the wall. Give him his due salary as a SB and give a new deal with realistic attainable incentives. The front office has paid much more for a whole hell of a lot less. He gets his due and they get cap relief, all while keeping him for his leadership and eventually as depth.

Not sure if this is directed at fans or the organization. Smells of the Troy treatment.
Fans. Probably on Twitter, but I've seen it plenty on this board. Cam has football left in him, just not as a complete player in terms of pass rushing a run stopping. He was not the same getting to the QB last season. He's still the best run defender on the defensive line.

I hope he's putting a lot of effort into his body this offseason. If only you could convince players to train like Jerry Rice year round.

The injury rates on everyone would go way down.

I think last season was an anomaly due to injuries and he still can be a force, but we can't expect 8-10 sacks nor a wrecking ball in rush D from him anymore. 16M a year feels expensive for that and he should accept his current situation and recognize he has already cashed in on his time at the top level. A restructure with a bit of paycut is due

Cam was a really good player for a long time but it’s time to get younger on this DL now.
He’s 35 and not worth near the cap hit and unless he agrees to a reduced salary I say it’s time to bid ole Cam farewell.
By moving on from him, Peterson, and Allen Robinson saves a lot of cap that can be spent on some younger DL. I’d also look at moving on from Larry O. As well. Way too much money for too little production.
Let’s get some younger talented guys in here on the DL.

And that injury could have handcuffed him. Still his age isn't lining up with the cost of that contract. I would think the Steelers will do something with it.

Cam is one of those Steelers that 100% should have won a Championship. His time is coming to an end. let him go out on top
That means you have to release him, because they ain’t going nowhere with Mike Tomlin at the helm.

I think that is what he was implying.😉

Problem with Cam is the player opposite of him is nothing special. So you can really have a drop off in the room per his exit. Better you draft and then ease him off the field or bring in a replacement and cut ties per the suggestion.

I think they will do option A.

The Steelers kicked the money down the road. We will deal with it at the end of his contract. Well it's the end of his contract and he cannot possibly EARN his wage next year and has a high likelihood of being injured. Save his cap and maybe he gets to play for a team that has a real chance. He has zero chance of going out as a champ with this organization.

He might feel it as a dig or an insult kicking the old hen out of the cage, but you would be doing is giving him a better chance to lay that golden egg.

Steelers lay eggs but they just leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I will continue with the food metaphors until ol girl makes breakfast.

Meh they only kicked 6 million into this years cap number. That 16 million salary was always going to either get restructured forward or cut. I could see a one year extention with a void year moving half or more of that forward... you could cut him next year and split it into 25 and 26 with 4 or 5 million in dead money each... that is a drop in the bucket against a 26 salary cap that should be like 300 million or more

I am a dollar short and you are just out here making sense.

More than likely, Cam gets extended an additional year, with an overall salary cut and cap friendly numbers. If Cam can’r except that, then time to move on. I’m glad we had him while here, but there is always an end to all players, time.

His Man of the Year award will keep him at least one more year.

Salute the nation

Three choices. Cut now. Costs 6.4 use the 16 on a replacement. Pay the whole 22.4. Spread the 22.4 over two and pay him more than the 6.4 this year to not play next year. I think if healthy he can certainly contribute. I think he is a team leader though he has really become a Tomlin mouth piece yet doesn't really seem to be able to set any of the dipshit young guys straight. Dealers Choice with not a whole lot of wins there really.

probably aimed at us fans because we do tend to turn on players at the drop of a hat. I know I have been guilty of it....

I can only go by what's been said on this board but I'd say with few exceptions fans have not turned on Cam. Most realize that he's not worth near what he's due to be paid next season.

Sorry Cam - it's part of the business of your chosen profession. Profession, not charity.

If he's not willing to rework his contract, he can GTFO. This is not The University o Cam Heyward.

Leadership is an intangible and has a value. Mostly you pay for gap integrity, tackles, pressure and sacks. Will be hard to determine how he will play next year. His game isn't really built on speed. If his power returns he still has value. Just not 16 million.

Lol.....Cam is the Man of the Year!!!!! He has gotten paid his coin.

Troy was one of the best ever. At the end it was time for him to go.

If Cam wants to stay and play for a Bettis type of deal that would be great. At his age and salary ....add in his injuries.....time to simply move on unless a salary restructure happens in a team friendly avenue.

He has never been much of a team leader....now add in his venting on social media and he simply should be embarrassed at himself.
