It’s a topic that’s on every Steelers fan, and likely every Steelers players’ mind for the foreseeable future. Who is going to be the next quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers? From Marcus Mariota, to Jimmy Garoppolo, the answers are all over the place from fans and media alike. Even former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier offered up his opinion over the weekend.

Steelers captain Cam Heyward spent the end of the week in Los Angeles after attending the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday night at the YouTube Theater. He spoke with the crew at NFL Network on Good Morning Football, and he was asked about the Steelers current quarterback situation.

“They all look good in black and gold when they got our defense. Whoever wants to come out this way, be in the cold a little bit, we got something for you,” Heyward said. We got some pieces on offense. Black and gold does look good. It goes with everything. An old guy or a young guy.”

Heyward is right for the most part. Black and gold is a solid color combination, but his defense may need a little help in 2022 too. Surely Heyward, and fellow All-Pro TJ Watt are the center pieces. Add in former All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick and you’ve got a solid trio. They just need to get Stephon Tuitt back, or they’ll just need to replace him if his time in the NFL is over. Devin Bush needs to regain his rookie form, and solidify the cornerback position whether its through the draft or free agency. Then they’ll be back up to a Super Bowl caliber defense. Seems worse than it actually is, but paired with a solid quarterback will help shield some of their issues even if they’re not resolved this season.

“I’m just looking for somebody to come in and lead the front on offense, deliver some touchdowns to a guy like Claypool, and Diontae Johnson, hand the ball off to Najee Harris. We have some really good pieces on offense. I don’t know who it’s gonna be. It’s gonna be interesting. I’m glad I don’t have to make those decisions, but hopefully we get the guy we need.”

It appears that Heyward is ready for whoever the team decides to acquire. And he specifically said ‘old or young’ so he’s not going to be upset if a rookie steps into the offense. One thing we know for certain is that Heyward will be there to lead, and pick up who ever comes into the building.

I wouldn't play it as the D needing a little help. Possibly needing a NT. More than likely needing a DE. Needing two corners, a SS, a ILBer. Little more than a little.
