Remember the next time we ***** about Loudermilk or Leal and think they aren’t developing that Tomlins staff once sat Heyward for three seasons behind Ziggy Hood… but tgen again, it offers take’s Dlinemen four or so years to really come into their own… especially in our system

Congratulations to CAM HEYWARD, well deserving and on the night of a must win game.

Salute the nation

I must be getting old. Did they really sit him for 3 full years?

Edit........l.just looked it up. Played about 25% in year two. Year three had a very good year and was playing full time

Hargrave took 3-4 years to become hyper-productive. Look at him now in Philly. Hope we don’t lose Leal and Loudermilk the same way.

Yes he was a prime example… the year before his last year here, people almost unanimously wanted him gone and thought he was a bust… but there are plenty of other examples… like Brett Kiesel… or Brenston Buckner, who unsuccessfully started here for a couple seasons, left and bounced around as a backup for a couple more years, then bloomed into a pretty good starter down in San Francisco… even Aaron smith, the best technical 3/4 DE you will see, really didn’t come into his own till year 3…

I don't think you hit your physical prime until the mid 20s. Just the physicality of playing on either the offense or defensive lines. You need to have optimum nutrition, weight room programs etc. When you're drafted into the NFL most are still boys who have only competed against other boys. Suddenly you're competing against men.

You have to learn what it's like to be a pro. Very few OL or DL step into the NFL and hit the ground running. Bruce Smith did a 180 from his rookie season to become the player he eventually did.

Cam sat behind Hood, Keisel and Smith in 2011 (his rookie year. In 2012, after Smith retired, Cam was the rotational DE behind Hood and Keisel. By 2013, he had supplanted Hood as the LDE opposite of Keisel. I may be mistaken, but I recall Cam being a little raw with his technique coming out. And that he has praised Keisel and Smith for taking the time to teach him the finer points of playing DE in the Steeler's system.
Hood sucked. And, maybe Cam should have been starting a year earlier. But, and again, I could be mistaken, I kinda remember him not being ready to start as a rookie in 2011.

Yeah… thats my point… sometimes greatness has to simmer… you can’t look at tge first few years of a player’s career and assume that is all they will be. Some guys are great out of tge gate, but others, especially those at highly technical positions, take years to get there

Called this the night of the game. Well earned. They are rock and hard place with him next year. They really can't live without his play and be relevant but 20m at his age cmon. Sooooo they will remortgage and kick it down the road like they always do.

Hopefully with a QB on his rookie deal they just eat the 20M next year

Kick the can on Cam... on the rookie QBs contract. This is the time to go get that talent by hook or crook. Give him the trenches and a WR he and the team need to be relevant again. Build the roster around him. Give him upgrades.
