Can we go back in time for Blount?

Just after SB XIII, I was on a plane from Miami to LA and 10 Steelers were on the plane going to the Pro Bowl. I only got Lynn Swann's autograph but I was more impressed with Mel Blount than Joe Greene. Guy was solid - they had to change the game because of him.

I loved the entire team but would openly bragg about Mel being a STEELERS Player. What little TV coverage I was able to watch, he always seemed to stand out amongst that team of ALL PRO' HOF'ers. (not taking anything away from any player on those teams).

Salute the nation

He'd be suspended for 6+ games these days for that. It wasn't even a penalty back then. Today's product flat out sucks...

Sorry I don't go for the man I wish it was more violent like the old days. My son just finished his senior season Friday with a tough loss in City final. I exhaled a bit. As I coach, I know how it is. Those guys were big and strong in that time, but it isn't even close to today. There are many high schoolers today who wouldn't look out of place in college then and college well over pros.

My son had to play against Micah Parsons his sophomore year. Micah was a man amongst boys, and they played Micah at tailback. Like you, I breathed a sigh of relief when they yanked him and put the backup in. Kids these days are so damn big and gifted in HS, and only get bigger and better in college.

Totally. Everyone loves violence until their kid is in it.

My son played also, and I held my breath every day till he was done.

Yep. Imagine watching James Harrison nailing your son the way he hit people. And I loved watching James play. When it’s your kid it’s amazing how you change your attitude. My son played rugby for 4 years, try watching that when 2 cross city teams that hate each other play. Gentlemen’s game my ***. Made his football days look like ballet.

Players are massive today. Sports training and nutrition has really changed the way these guys are built

My parents said the same when I played. Looking back on it. I’m glad I’ve never went collegiate or pro. I like my brain cells very much
