Besides being a solid player solidifying the run D I probably have a slightly different take on Casey than most.

Years upon years of going to Latrobe he would after practice cart ride off and not sign. Before practice walked straight to the field. Very little fan interaction from what I saw. If anyone was lucky enough to say different good for them. But his normal wasn't fan interaction. If I was going to love Ryan Clark for his extra above and beyond time he spent, I have to be fair and say I didn't care for Casey's approach. Now I know some players don't sign much fine. But even those players I have seen sign here and there.

Obviously not losing sleep over it and it doesn't take away from the product on the field. But I really appreciate the ones who intermix with fans even just the children.

The rest don't want to be bothered and in turn I won't bother with them.

I love Casey for one play in particular

Dropping the hammer on Eddie George.
BOOM

I know Tiger Woods has had many issues. However, I saw him check off a little girl's bucket list sign that included heart surgery and meet Tiger Woods. He gave her a glove. It takes so little to give someone a lifetime memory. Great power great responsibility. Just do the minimum at least.

This might be a dumb question but have the Steelers even tried to replace Hampton? I don't mean just putting a guy in the starting lineup but trying to draft someone with potential of playing the position well. It seems we've tried to run a 3-4 defense without a NT since Casey retired.

Not to make excuses for Casey but I'm guessing he may have been pretty exhausted after training camp workouts given his size. May have just been heading for treatments etc.

I do see your point though.

Okay, Casey was an important part of the defense, great at stopping the run, yada, yada. But one play always stands out in my mind in a negative light.

Steelers were playing the Patsies**** and Hampton gets called for holding. He is enraged, yelling at the official. The next play, he blows past the double-team and drops Tammy. I thought to self, "Self, he was fired up and absolutely blew up that pass play. Why doesn't he do that 20x per game??"

If you watch game film from the mid-2000's, on passing plays you will often see him just standing with the offensive linemen - literally, just standing there. Granted, it was usually a double-team but still.

Yea but from what Slash said, he didn't sign anything pre practice. Though he could have been exhausted from eating breakfast and lunch.

Big snack!

The Steelers feel that the 360 lb Nose is the dinosaur like the FB.

And trust me I have patience with my opinions as I know tiredness, weather, coach reaming their *** during a practice, etc. can alter signing. Watt first season went straight to the field but I saw him focused. I can't remember if it was that offseason but I have seen him sign. Eventually you see the whole team filter before and after practice and see their habits. Some do bare minimum but that is at least something.

And I used to religiously get autografts so I had a good feel for which vets did or didn't want to interact. Not once have I ever seen Casey sign. Like I said maybe he did somewhere along the way and I didn't catch it. But that signing would have been equivalent to seeing a UFO land in your yard. A rare sighting.

I think he got gassed often. Carried too much weight...
