First off I love Najeh Harris, would not trade him for the world. Having said that how the hell did we miss on Humphrey, Smith, Liang all rookies? They just pushed San Diego all over the field in scoring on their opening drive. Wow, they are impressive. If Najeh ran through some of those holes......well he would still be running.

Liang is a second year. Steelers had two chances at Humphrey and passed on both. Not taking a chance on Smith was just dumb. Tremendously talented and a player who was worth the health red flag. Rather than take Buddy Johnson, who probably will never be anything more than a special teams linebacker, why not take a right guard who has Pro Bowl potential? I know DeCastro hadn't retired yet, but he was in the final year of his deal and given his health, the Steelers were going to need a RG in 2022, so get a one-year head start.

We all knew they were going blow their wad on Harris in the first regardless of the intelligence of that move… and honestly Muuth was probably worth them passing on humphrey, but waiting until the 3rd and 4th rounds to address the line then not bringing in extra veteran help especially at center where the backups are not really starting material… that was absurd

The arrogance of the Chargers to eschew theFG. 4 times to go for it on 4th down led to the loss.

No No. He goes by analytics which means he's smarter than you. Analytics is always right. Or at least it's right most of the time. So if the chargesr have like a 50 game season, they're bound to come out ahead.

I do understand the math of why you go for it at the 1. Part of the calculation is that even if you don't get it, you leave the opponent at the 1 and odds are that they will not be able to drive for a score and you will get the ball back with good field position.

But how do you justify passing up a FG on the last play of the half? You can't. And you ******* lost. Good.

I think more coaches should go for it on 4th, but man that was brutal tonight for the Chargers. I feel like the coach was like a gambling addict just wanting to pull the lever "one more time." This board would have been on melt down if Tomlin did that. A loss for the Chargers helps the steelers I believe so we will take it.

Because they drafted Kendrick Green. That's how you miss - you've already drafted your guy.

The whole thing coulda worked too... IF they didn't install and run the Mr. Gadget offense. Or they could have not hired Matt Canada. Or they could have benched Matt Canada in favor of QB coach, Mike Sullivan. But NOooooooo, they had to be stubborn ***** and keep calling the 22 dive with a fake jet-sweep; and then paired with the alternative: the fake 22 dive jet-sweep.

Any which way you look at it, they tried to jam a square peg into a round hole all-season-long. Why don't teams ever bench coaches?

1. ya cannot execute an inside-running game with perhaps the best mobile OL out of college in the last 50 years; maybe ever.
2. ya cannot execute an inside-running game with a free agent OG who made the Pro Bowl with superior agility and technique.
3. ya cannot execute an Patriots-like short-rub passing game with WRs that do not have 3-cone drill quickness.

Yes, the coach gambled, lost and paid the price. Something all gamblers should be prepared to do.

Chukes sucks. Keep at swing for this year. Banner can stay right tackle.

We need a LT. And we need a center.

Creed Humphrey in the first. Then a RB or LT in 2 and 3. Im thinking Walker Little or Better.

1. Najee was ours - and he's a great pick. While Conner is having a resurgence in Arizona, he was constantly having nagging injuries here. Wish him well, and still a fan, but his time here was over.

2. Muth very well could have lasted to the 3rd round. Are TEs that important, anyway? Yes, I've warmed to him, but.... we could have had an actual solid Center who was a Center in college instead of converting a G. An undersized Guard at that.

3. Passing on Smith that late... they could have likely thought he was gone. But, he should have absolutely been on the radar. One of our best OL in a longtime came in undrafted from Tennessee, so Smith could have been trending to being undrafted and maybe they were banking on it. Still, to not take him in the 6th when we already had a slew of LBs... ignorant.

Coaches don’t understand that they have to annually adjust analytical stats for aggressive play. Three years ago that was a smart play… defenses have adjusted… you can play conservative in points again… teams aren’t unstoppable offensive juggernauts anymore

Theres no way Pat lasts to the 3rd. Before the Steelers picked in RD 3 Hunter Long and Tommy Tremble both were off the board.

The Steelers would be ****** without Pat. Vance retired. Ebron can‘t block for ****. Steelers would be starting Gentry or Radar or some veteran scrub they got off waiver wire. It is increasingly difficult to find college TEs that can both block and contribut as a receiver. Pat was pretty much the only TE in this draft that had the potential to be above average at both as a rookie.

Najee was the mistake pick. Nothing against him but the position of RB is easier to fill. Yes he’s good but still under 4 ypc because the OL sucks. They could have kept Conner and drafted Creed in the 1st.

Looking back, I bet the chiefs regret taking Edwards Helaire in the 1st last year. He’s been OK but they don’t miss a beat with backups. Actually, they have outperformed CEH. They could have had a much more impactful player.

they picked CEH with the last pick in round 1, if my memory serves me correct? The guy is tough, but small and injury prone. Just coming off the SB win, I consider him a luxury pick. They made up for it this past year's draft with more studs on the OL.

I see your point about Freiermuth, and do not disagree about the TE situation. I'm extremely glad we have him. And while I will disagree about Najee - dude has more than held his own this season - since he's done essentially more this season than any RB we've had in their rookie season. I cannot imagine how good the guy is going to be going forward. I liken him to a combination of Tomlinson and Eddie George - a big, muscular back with great hands who can pass pro.

Imagine Najee with a legit Center in front of him and not dancing around a defender at the hand off. Unfortunately, we cannot. Like I said, I'm, glad we have Pat. I'm not sold on Green. Meinerz was there when we took Green. As was Ben Cleveland.

My point was more that we've seen some crazy **** in drafts and Freiermuth lasting to the third wasn't out of the realm of possibilities. And if he was taken, we could have had Ben Cleveland instead of Trai Turner.

Not saying we 100% would have taken him, but an offense line going forward with Najee, Humphrey, Cleveland and then Moore ... that's REALLY looking towards the future.

Completely agree. Harris is a terrific player, but the Steelers would be better positioned for the present and future if they did this:
1. Humphrey
2. Freiermuth
3. Elijah Molden - would've immediately filled the big hole at nickel CB.
4a. Moore
4b. Trey Smith

Maybe we could've kept Quincey Roche so we had depth with upside at EDGE.

Nice post Superman

I was of the 2 of the first three picks should have been OL. I don't regret either Najee or Pat as I like the both but the OL litterally isn't very good. This year needs heavy investment so as last years first can prosper.

Salute the nation

Their oline cost them the SB last year and they fixed in one off season. Can you imagine that concept.

The Chiefs are 18th in rushing per game with no rusher over 500 yards, so how good could their line be?

Tied for 10th in YPC at 4.5.
Tied for 9th least sacks allowed.

By the way we are 16th right in the middle of the pack. Considering we have a new line, a qb that can’t move, that’s not horrific. Have to be a little optimistic.

I don't put much stock into that because Ben has the fastest delivery in the league. The pass protection is still probably below average and they have one of the worst run-blocking units in the league. Overall, this line is probably a bottom 5 unit in the league with Moore allowing 8 sacks this season and Green flat out struggling over the back half of the year. Their best two players this season (excluding Dotson due to injury) are Turner and Okorafor, and I wouldn't anticipate either returning next season.
