UNC Football: Drake Maye turned down two $5 million offers to stay in Chapel Hill
You could’ve been anywhere in the world, but you’re here with us. And we appreciate that.

Its out of control now
This is worse than the NFL, there doesn't seem to be any restrictions with the portal. This is now a free for all and makes college football no better than the NFL.
Well, there’s many more players being offered many more millions to make themselves eligible for the draft.![]()

Totally different thing.. this is literally just boosters paying mercenaries to play for their team… no limitations… at least in the old system they were limited by how much they could hide and still get it to the player…Well, there’s many more players being offered many more millions to make themselves eligible for the draft.
What you are essentially arguing is that the colleges, not the athletes, are the ones who should be making fortunes off the athletes. They f'd up when they opened this thing up to getting paid. They needed to put limits on it from the start. This is now a free for all and makes college football no better than the NFL. A lot of people used to love watching college football so much more than the NFL because it was playing for the love of the game. I understand the need for some money but room and board and spending money is about it. I can't see any reason for them to get more than $1 million or really even $500k a year. That is more than enough. They should also have stipulations that they have to give their money back if they don't play games (regular season or bowl games) to "get ready for the NFL combine."
No, its fine that they get a piece of the pie, but full out booster led no limit payment was always a terrible idea… no different than a sports league without a cap… hell worse probably because those nutjob boosters have no care about profit or fairnessWhat you are essentially arguing is that the colleges, not the athletes, are the ones who should be making fortunes off the athletes.
The corruption began the first time a a supposed academic institution offered an athletic scholarship.
It’s not at all apples and oranges. It’s entertainment, players are entertainers, and there’s a lot of money it."Completely missing the ******* point while mixing apples and oranges for $500, Alex."
Scholarship athletes get a free education in exchange for their play. That's how it's always been. The athletes realistically need a little more to survive and even enjoy their college time but they should not be a part of the revenue intake the school's make for the programs. This is not professional sports. The NFL has rules (as they definitely should or younger players would get destroyed) for players needing to play so many years in college. I don't view it as corruption until the players are getting bribed to play or not play, etc. That is corruption not giving a free education for playing a sport. What you are essentially arguing is that the colleges, not the athletes, are the ones who should be making fortunes off the athletes.

Fairness in college football? Since when? The same handful of teams compete for the National Championship year after year mostly because their academic institutions are willing to throw more money into the program. No, its fine that they get a piece of the pie, but full out booster led no limit payment was always a terrible idea… no different than a sports league without a cap… hell worse probably because those nutjob boosters have no care about profit or fairness

CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE ATTAINED THE MINIMUM AGE OF 18:
The minimum age for deputy sheriffs in LA County is 19.5 years to apply and 20 years at the time of appointment.
Academic institutions monopolized what is really semi-professional football. I love college football, but that’s corrupt. It’s the only way for an amateur high school football player to become a professional. There’s not a good legal argument for why that player shouldn’t be able to profit as much as possible on his ability because it’s athletic ability. Teenage singers and actors can make millions, but not athletes? Why?Scholarship athletes get a free education in exchange for their play. That's how it's always been. Let's be real, he didn't return to UNC for free.Wow, turning that down took some loyalty and dedication from Maye which you don't often see much of these days. Let's hope he doesn't tear up his knee next year.
They did screw up. They could've allowed NIL before and it could've been regulated and actually NIL. The collectives at the schools is straight up pay-for-play, which isn't NIL. There aren't many college players who would get top dollar on true NIL deals unless they have a huge social media following or a top athlete in their sport. With these ridiculous TV contracts, I wonder how long these idiot boosters will keep being the ones to pay for the athletes. If college players are getting paid, it should be the players earning these massive TV deals and they should share a part of the revenue. I just don't see boosters sustaining this forever with no return on investment outside of ego and maybe a few extra wins a year. People donating a million dollars get a building named after them, nothing with the players outside of maybe access to the team. But those prices are going to keep going up and rich people don't get rich by spending money. They f'd up when they opened this thing up to getting paid. It has nothing to do with that. They are getting a free education while they grow big and strong enough to not get killed in the NFL. It's not like the NBA or baseball that aren't as physical. Everyone knows this. High school players could go directly to the NFL but would have to sit for years and owners know that. They don't want to pay any more than they have to plus most high school players develop in college and then are ready to be drafted. It would be an even bigger gamble drafting high school players into the NFL who would sit and may never be ready to play in the NFL.Yes. The number of published scholars in the nfl is staggering.
what about that football player at Mt. Union College , Div III ?No biggie
Nothing to see here
Product is still far more enjoyable than the NFL
Hope all these kids make every last dime they can, they deserved it for a long damn time
