Since 1920's universities have leaned only slightly to the left, but ever since the retirement of the college professors of Americas greatest generation (WWII), universities have become full tilt leftist indoctrination centers.
Another reason they were called Americas greatest generation.

Jonathan Haight a psychologist , and longtime liberal college professor who didn't come to understand Conservatism until his mid 40's wrote an excellent piece.

A double standard would be something like liberals giving a pass to Bill Clinton for his verbal and physical transgressions against woman, while wanting to crucify Trump for his comment about *****.

What we are describing are these sanctimonious, self righteous liberals sitting atop their perch of moral superiority, so immersed in their cause that they become oblivious to the oncoming collisions....that is, when their ideas about the way things should to be begin to seriously conflict with each other depending on which group you belong to....I mean, how can you champion for gay rights, and champion for a religion that wants to kill them?

It all depends on the angle from which you view it. In your proposed context, you are correct. However, I am looking at these things from a different angle - who they attack and over what. They selectively attack and they selectively forgive. All depending on who the target is. Two sets of standards.

Take LGBT. Oppose gays as a white/Christian American, they will attack and defile you for being intolerant of homosexuals. Yet in the next breath they will give a pass to Muslims and simply overlook and ignore their far more severe feelings towards homosexuals. That is a textbook definition of a double standard - two different standards for two different groups.

Any white, Christian American who opposes gay marriage is treated as a pariah and may even face death threats, while any Muslim who throws gays off of buildings shall be given a pass for his beliefs against homosexuals.
