Cower could win workmanlike games where it was a B- C+ performance against a soft opponent. You'd leave feeling bad about the effort but they won. And that is why when they were a playoff caliber team they were IN the playoffs. There is almost no way this team should be out of the playoffs but they will **** it up no doubt and you will look back at it and say that is why. It is better to go 6-10 than 9-7 or 8-8. I don't care we could sit here till doomsday. When you can play to a certain level and then come out and **** the bed like that. It is on the coach.

I am glad I'm not the only one thinking this.

And the reason was that Cower coached teams could play defense and Run the ball. It wasn't all on the performance of one player. You watch Seattle yesterday they were no better than Pittsburgh for three quarters of that game. But they can run and play defense. This team cannot. Which is why despite a near MVP season by the QB it will likely be sitting down at home during playoffs.

That same MVP-like QB has to shoulder as much of the blame as anyone else.

In fact, the defense holding the Jets to 20 points after 4 TO's is rather commendable. The inability of the offense to move the ball against the lowly Jets was the reason we lost- and that doesnt happen to MVP QB's.

It does when the coaches put together a game plan that includes throwing to a just out of retirement OLB in the RZ and throwing screens into the teeth of the defense.

Not sure why some here are still comparing the two coaches..... 8 years after Cowher retired. It doesn't matter who the **** the coach WAS... it only matters who the coach is now.

Am I wrong?

The coach does make all the difference in the world. The coach is responsible for the makeup of his team personnel wise through the draft and free agency. The team is a reflection of its coach and his persona.

Cowher drafted and acquired much better F/A's than Tomlin. Cowher's team reflected the coach's personality which was a tough intimidating one. Tomlin's team reflects his personality which is soft, indecisive, erratic, and basically loaded with excuses.

Don't try and tell me the coach doesn't matter, because it does.

What did Cowhers 6-10 seasons say about his personality?

This is a joke of a thread. It has almost been 8 years. We have been to 2 SB since his departure. Why the hell do some of you still have a hard on for Cowher like the guy was some Lombardi? He doesnt have any intention of coming back to the organization and never will. Just let it go.....

You know what Cowher did? He said I built one team when I came here in 1992 and got the team to several AFCC games and a super bowl. I had a couple down years of 7-9,6-10 and 9-7 but in the process I was rebuilding and could see the progress where we became a power house winning a super bowl in 2005.

Don't forget that Cowher continually dealt with losing players to F/A and had a group of HOF QB's after he lost Neil O'Donnell in 96. This coach has the fortune of having a HOF QB.

There were TWO....two bonehead plays by Ben......both resulted in INTs while we were moving to score. Deebo in on offense aint the reason we lost..its not the reason we struggled. Antonio's gaffes didnt help either. Theres an 11-yr QB at the helm..a two time SB winning QB that should know better

I fully expect Ben to play much better and reel in the risk-taking...i fully expect Brown to become reinvigorated and resume his MVP level of play. We win as a team, we lose as a team but this loss has 7,84 and 6 written all over it. Right now, im on board with jettisoning Suisham...his kickoffs are short and he misses what amounts to an extra point. That miss was deflating.

If anything was deflating, it's opening the game giving up a pathetic 14 play drive in which almost every play resulted in a large chunk of yardage gained, and then turning around and giving up a long TD on the first play of the next drive.

THAT is deflating. Anything that happened after that is just kicking us while we were down

I realize that Ben and AB's mistakes were costly but it shouldn't have cost us the game. Those things happen to players, even very good ones but the team has to move past it. We get into the red zone and can't score and have to settle for a FG and a missed one as well. That's poor execution and I blame the players and the coaches. The play calling down there was ridiculous. Why did we not attack a glaring weakness which is there defensive backfield. They had given up 24 TD's and we don't attack it deep. No we decide to go dink and dunk. Why not come out be aggressive and attack the weakness and see if they can stop it.

4 T.O.s are difficult for ANY team to overcome. Especially when one of them is in the RZ

That's correct but with a better game plan one that would have attacked a glaring weakness, their defensive backfield which had given up 24 TD's may have been what we needed to do. However the decision was made to throw short all day which did nothing but eat the clock and produce 13 points. Failure in the red zone once gain reared its ugly head with a FG and a missed FG to show for it. Poor play calling there as well.

And how many boneheaded offensive calls by the coaches? How many bubble screens, slip screens, dual screens, tunnel screens and base screens can they call in one game? Ben didn't play great but the coaches made sure that Manning wouldn't have won the game with that ****** play calling. You're asking Ben to be perfect but are ok with the coaches putting together one of the worse plans I've seen in pro-football since BA threw the ball 40 times in a blizzard. This game has TOMLIN written all over it. Bad management, bad coaching and bad adjustments.

Yep. It's like Tomlin refuses to go with what should actually work. Instead let's avoid attacking their weakness (which corresponds to our strength), and play right into their strengths (which corresponds to our weakness) because hey they'll never see it coming!

I'm tired of this "avoid what should work because it'll outsmart the other team" coaching. This is the NFL. If there is a matchup discrepancy, you exploit it. You don't avoid exploiting it because you're afraid they'll see it coming. That's just dumb, and that's our coach.

Cowher's name comes up because he was our last coach, just like Young was always compared to Montana.

They did the same thing in the SB with GB. How many DBs did GB lose in the game? And BA/Tomlin never picked on them. I remember the "we don't let injuries change what we do". Yup, that is why you fail.

Coaching 101, exploit their weakness. Play to your strength(s). pretty simple. PS Also know the game, you are coaching.
