Dalton =115 million

Bwahahahaha Red Rocket Red Rocket

Six more years of kicking his ***. I have a feeling Ben might not get a new contract in 2015 unless he takes a hometown discount. If you think about it he is 32 this season and 33 next and would be a FA when he is 34. The team could just franchise him at 34 then either trade him then or let him leave at 35 and the market for a 35 year old QB might not be as strong as he likes. Or at 33 he can sign a cap friendly deal where the steelers give him 40 million upfront but backload some of his contract and get a 6th year out of it which makes it a 4-5 year deal worth 60-80 million but on paper we can make it look like 6 years and 120 million.

I see no way he takes a discount. I think he feels he has been taking a discount for years now. I hope this doesnt become an issue.

Why do this now? He's proven to be a *decent* regular season QB, but has averaged a lot of int's (16) over the last 3 years and had 20 last year alone. Also, his post season line is horrible. 1 td 6 ints 3 fumbles 0-3 and a QBR hovering around 18. Yuck. Better for the Steelers I guess.

He's also 4-8 against The Ravens and Steelers combined.

He is the best they are likely to get for a while, they have actually made the play offs with this guy.

Ben has earned the most of anyone who has ever signed $100+ million contract (about 20 in total). In other words, Ben has took home the most dollars in his career, already, than the vast majority of QB's playing. So its hard for him to pretend as if he is already taking some type of discount.

Problem is, the young guys (Kaep) and guys who basically got their first big contract (A.Rod and Flucco), basically reset the QB market value. Ben is going to have to show that he is durable or willing to play safe, to attain the contract he wants.

This shows the danger of group think. The game has artificially changed due to rule tweaks to heavily favor the pass. This means every team is now more desperate than ever to have a good QB. The media embraces this as well to the point now that even giving mediocre QBs over $100 M is viewed as a necessary cost of doing business.

the result is that when it comes to the highest paid position, the player's actual accomplishents take a backseat to age and position as most important factors to pay big money.

If Ben has another productive season like last season, he will receive and deserve an extension higher that the red headed step child who has won nothing. He will just have turned 33 and could play six more seasons to 38. Hell if light bulb head Manning who has had major surgery and Brwady can play well into their late 30's I see no reason why Ben cannot. Ben will not give a hometown discount. That is a ridiculous term to begin with. There is no hometown discount given by these millionaires. This is their opportunity to make the most they will ever make so forget about discounts. When Ben signed this current contract it was good deal for both Ben and the Steelers so he hasn't given them any discounts. He will get an extension that takes him to his late 30's in the 125 to 130 million range. Franchise QB's do not come by very often and Rooney is very aware of it since he waited over 20 seasons for one after Bradshaw retired.

Ben will get paid again and he deserves it. Without him there is no hope of playoffs as we approach each season. Not until we draft his successor and I hope to God we get as lucky again.

It will get done, somehow. I don't see BR leaving the STEELERS. Not sure how, or what $$$, but it will get done.

As far as Andy Dandy goes, more power to him & the Bengal's.

Salute the nation

If that is the case and he wants to "cash in" one more time I completely understand and he can leave his last few years and be an unproductive Viking and get a career ending injury when we let him go after 2016 when he is 35 and only has a year or two left in the tank anyways. If you look at what Brady did I think giving Ben 60 million over 4 years or 80 million over 5 is pretty fair especially considering I would give 40 million in guaranteed money. Other wise he plays for 12 million next year and probably 18-19 the year after then tries to cash in at 35 years old on a big guarantee contract. Only teams that dumb and desperate are Oakland and Minnesota!

This is not good for us this will set Ben's value through the roof. Should of signed Ben instead of the thug.

Anyone who thinks Ben is going to be willing to play for less money than Andy Dalton or Joe Flacco is kidding themselves. The Steelers always negotiated with their QB's by now, going against that policy will bite them in the ***. If anyone is pissed at him when he decides to either test the market, or leave will be angry at the wrong person. He has earned his big payday, he doesn't owe the Steelers ****.

Are you serious? 80 million over 5 years? He won't and he should not take that. Ben is entering prime years in his career and could be better than ever in the upcoming seasons. He's matured as a QB and as a person and his skills have in no way shown any signs of erosion. He will not take less than ******* Andy Dalton or Joe Flucco.

Who expects him to tank like Bert did after he got paid???

Bert did not tank because he got paid. He is simply not a great qb and they couldnt afford to keep/get him weapons.

Bull... Ray Ray could have given him a deal on a barely used knife, if Bert needed weapons.

Last year was Ben's 2nd year playing a complete season. He struggled mightily during the first half of the season (as did everyone), but he looked much better and much polished the 2nd half of the year.

If Ben plays like he did the 2nd half of the year, he will have a long and productive career and be deserving of a big contract. But its crazy to think that a guy who has played like a cowboy and notorious for getting for hurt- will age gently through the years.

I think what the Steelers are doing is prudent. If BB wants Peyton, Brady $$- he will need to spend more time in the film room and less time putting his body at risk. This year will be his test.

Instead of waiting till next year perhaps we should try locking Ben for life in b&g now after this contract it's gonna be funny when in 2-3 years aj maccoron overtakes him as the starter.

Its been stated that we if lock Ben up now we wont be able to fit other contracts in this summer. The salary cap is expected to get another sizable bump next year making it easier to resign Ben next year.

Ben realizes that his body is not at 32 what it was at 22 and you can see that with his style of play last season. That's one of the reasons he likes the no huddle so much since he can get rid of the ball quicker and take fewer hits and I finally think the Steelers realize this as well. It looks like we may finally have a good enough OL to protect him and coupled with the no huddle, he will take less hits and has learned not to salvage his body out there like in prior years. Ben is the best thing to happen QB wise to the Steelers since Terry Bradshaw and unless some of you want to suffer through the days of mediocre quarterback play, you better hope we sign him to an extension.

You think Ben needs more time in the film room? Of course you know like some others here exactly how much time the man studies film. We all as fans can intelligently speak on Ben and the amount of time he spends looking at the tape. No one here knows that. We're fans and all we can do is listen to worthless rumors, make our own assumptions but unless we have some connection to the players or the coaches of this team, its just an assumption. To me Ben has total control when he's on the field and never looks like he's lost or doesn't know what the other team is throwing against him.

He would be wise to sign a contract with 40 million guaranteed. That is 40 million he might otherwise not earn. His wife will have him sign that deal.

Ben will have a another good year and at 12.1 mill base and with the last year at 11.6.
They better now with this deal does to the market of QB's who have done jack **** , we will have to give him
we re do his deal in march and change his
2015 base to 15 mill increase his base by 3.4
2016 20 mill
2017 22 mill
2018 21 mill
2019 17 mill
2020 15 mill

5 years 110 mill 28 mill SB
