Saw this on the web and wondered if this is something the D should be concerned about for this weeks game:

Brian Hoyer, Browns: One of the reasons the Browns are playing surprisingly well: Hoyer seems to have a knack for the deep ball, completing 10 of 18 passes for 352 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Not bad for a passing game that was supposed to be sunk after Josh Gordon's suspension. Travis Benjamin and Taylor Gabriel each have three deep catches for the team.

With the protection that he's been getting and our lack of pressure this could be an issue. What do we do to address that without opening up the run game for the Browns?

well the corners continue to pay 20 yards off the ball instead of playing press

so that should help with the deep ball pass

with the short passing game?

not so much

If our defense can resemble the defense that just played, maybe a step up, we will be in the game. It's the offense that needs a couple steps up from their last time out. I'm thinking BOTH wi;ll happen. We are in the part of the season where our team starts to take shape, so to speak. The magic of "The Steelers Nation" power, is about to be unleashed...........

Salute the nation

Good question Slaine ! I would think that we have to consider the penalty factor in as well. Our DB's have a history with the yellow hanky coming into play on some of those deep balls and it only takes one or two long ones to turn a game around.

We replace Jarvis Jones with James Harrison.

One other thing to keep in mind for this game, the Browns are likely getting a bit better as well. This should be a tough game with our offense struggling of late. This game could be decided by penalties, a bad play by either team, or a "splash" play by either team. The fact that both teams met just a few weeks ago will also toss in a few wrinkles. The only thing I find in the steelers favor here is due to injuries on defense there is significant change to the steelers defensive personnel that may make it seem different to the Browns, it could turn out to be good or bad.

When you do not have the players to run your scheme, you do what you can to limit the damage.

We continue to give up second and third and very long so why would you not expect some chances on the deep ball.

Yes...most likely a no name will have at least 2-3 big catches against us....the bend but don't break defense doesn't work anymore.

press Cortez on Austin and Gay on Benjamin and play Mccain 5 yds off Gabrial.

I quite often don't even get to watch the games and I saw this coming. It makes you wonder doesn't it?

Even crappy Ds can usually take away one aspect of the Os plan. After the first two series, our D could do little, just like the second half of game 1. Inept is too kind to describe.
