Derek Watt: quite the band aid

Guess the most important ability is availability really doesn't apply if your brother is DPOY. This is his third camp and third camp he has missed major time. I think it's time to take a hard look at if you are going to hold a roster spot here. With the amount they use a full back. So before you say special teams. He isn't a game breaker returner. Cam's brother looked pretty damn good Saturday and I'm more than confident you could fill that void.
Plus he is like a 4.7.m cap hit and a 2.7 m cap saving if he is cut.
 
Looked it up. He had like 5 offensive snaps per game and he has a total.of 6 yards of offense as a Steelers player. He leads the team in Sp. Tackles with 14 but to put into perspective he will be counting darn near double what Harris will. Wow. Is 2 million dollars worth an extra four sp. tackles.
Pretty sure I know why T.J. went into Mr. Rooney's office and ended his hold in. And if that is the case I guess they gotta let him eat a roster spot.
 
Its hard to say in this age who has real injuries and who has the “I am faking because Im a vet who isn’t trying to get banged up in camp” injuries

We didn’t run anything new on Saturday yet… i think we will be utilizing a hback and fullback way more this season.. if tgey do keep 4 rbs and a fullback and heyward, it may be a sign that they really do intend to have a run first offense this year… we will see
 
Heyward might be considered more of a TE.

If you are worried about money, it ain't yours, so don't. Besides, I don't think Derek Watt's contract will keep them from signing anyone.

I think the Steelers will always keep a roster spot for a FB. Kind of like the 3rd QB. It is just what they do, regardless of amount of usage. I don't quite understand it either...not them keeping a fullback but why he is not utilized more. I think in today's NFL, with the limits on tackling in camps and practices, the running game should be more emphasized.
 
With the passing game what it is, most NFL defenses are geared to shut it down not the running game. Also a great running game keeps the opposition's offense off the field which is a huge advantage. See Super Bowl XXV Buffalo vs NYG.

I am pretty sure this is his last year with the Steelers. I am sure signing him was part of the reason TJ took less money. Heyward likely makes the squad as a Hback/TE and if he can add a little weight play some FB too.
 
I wonder how much he gets paid per snap 25k…if he’s getting a roster spot they should use him. For how much he’s used it is definitely just part of TJ’s bonus package, it’s the only logical explanation.
 
I was wondering if both Watt and Heyward would make it, but they seem to be using Heyward as more of a TE and he seems to be doing well. Watt is probably not the best use of a few million, but not the worst. If it keeps TJ happy and provides some extra team chemistry then great. I think Watt is a decent player if they actually decide to use him.

THIS, D.Watt is unlikely to be here next year. There is one thing that could keep him and that is another DPOY by his brother.

Watt does not add much (anything) on offense. He doesn't play defense.

Those are the only two elements of the sport, right? RIGHT? I mean it's not like there's a 3rd aspect that he is good at and contributes since that might make the analysis completely different.
 
If he really is being kept because of TJ they should just have him retire and give him some type of Coach position. he can still get his check, go to the games, help out and not cost a roster spot.

Generally speaking players are not paid what Watt gets to play SP. Teams.

I guess they feel they need a FB on the roster and why not the brother of the Star of the team who does contribute on SP teams.

Derrick Watt's contract is up after this year so it will not be negotiated at rediculous price it is today. If they keep him it will be for much less $$$cap$$$ than it is today, like you said................ he is S-Team

Maybe you will turn out to be right.

Though I suspect if you lead the squad in special teams tackles, your *** has an indefinite spot on the 52-man roster.
 
No one in Derek Watt's situation makes this team but Derek Watt and I wonder what message that sends the other players.
 
It's the " Tomlin way".
 
My offer to Derek Watt next year wouod be Vet min and see if you can get some off your brother.

Why the hell are you so worried about it? In the list of things to be concerned over, Derek Watt would be very low on mine.

What message does it send? Huh? Derek Watt is a/the FB. It isn't like he is a WR and they are keeping him over another, more productive WR. The Steelers are going to have a FB. I'm not sure why if they don't use him more, but they are going to have one. Like the 3rd QB.
 
He's not being used properly.
