I see that DL Coach Dunbar could possibly not return. He is Coach Tomlin's longest tenure coach on staff.

Dunbar's contract has expired so he is a free agent, unless a new contract is offered, he could go elsewhere.

Karl has worked with several teams, Bills / Jets / Vikings / Bears.

Obviously, he doesn't come up with scheme, but he does seem to get his room performing well. He has had to deal with injury often, causing rotational changes that seem to get the most of what he has available.

I'd bring him back but not longer than the Tomlin extension. Clean slate hence HC-ing change.

He's not the line coach we need to be gone. Also, has Dunbar really been there longer than Danny Smith?

I wasn't going to post a link, but that is what the article said, maybe it meant Other than the three, OC / DC / STC.

I re-read the article and it says "one of the longest tenured staff (2018)"

You're right, that puts Smith (2013) there longer.

My bad on the mix-up, sorry. Thanks for the insight '448

This is the scapegoat Karl Dunbar? Geez!
This is ******* stupid! Dunbar is not the problem he’s a well liked, respected DL coach by the players.
Well in all honesty he didn't get much out of the 2 DL set he was saddled with. Maybe if he would have been allowed to play 3 or God forbid 4 DL, they could have been something.

There is a chance they could work out a contract and he returns.

Definitely the wrong “Line” coach to be thinking replacement.

I think Pat Myers has 2 years remaining on his contract, what a waste.

Dunbar also works with the edge rushers (Watt, Highsmith, Herbig, etc.). I actually think he's one of their better positional coaches.

Dunbar is one of the higher rated coaches we had... he probably wants to leave to further his career... since its impossible to gain traction here anymore...
As far as I can tell there is nothing to indicate he wants to leave. The stories about Dunbar possibly leaving seem to be solely based on the fact his contract is expiring, and of the coaches whose contracts are expiring he is the most well known amongst Steelers fans. Speculation about Dunbar's future will generate more clicks than speculation about other Steelers coaches whose contracts are expiring.

Screw it, Let's not have any defensive linemen at all...or linebackers! Let's parade all 11 defensive backs out there, all standing up and play a fire-zone scheme with absolutely no QB pressure.

Mike Tomlin would love, love, love that ****.

Moron.

I really think with the Ravens and Browns, or any running team really, they need at least 1 down lineman. Maybe play him a few yards off the line. thats the ticket

11 dbs on the field... and all playing a soft zone that can get picked apart when it isnt getting run over...

Fully agree, that’s why the non-extension is a little confusing to this point. It can still happen as we need to retain as much competent help as possible.

The thing to remember is that it takes two to tango... for coaches and ufas... if the guy wants to go somewhere else, you often cant do anything to retain them

Does that DL have to line up on the line, between their tackles ?

Can he line up, 3-point position but way out side to cover their slot or WR ? Trick them if he is blitzing or not………
