Draw it up in the dirt

I love this kind of stuff.

Roethlisberger was great to watch because he was a gunslinger with natural arm talent. Now we get an old, but cerebral QB with natural arm talent who still has a little left in his Hall of Fame tank.

I know he hasn't played, but I genuinely am curious how Will Howard's mental game and preparation has changed watching Rodgers do it every day.

When the Steelers signed Rodgers it was clearly going to be an enormous upgrade from the QB play that's been on display here since Ben's elbow injury.

Rodgers has been a joy to watch operate. Whether he's pitching a fit over the coaching staff taking too long to send in the play call, teammates lining up incorrectly, catching the opposing defenses in the middle of substitutions, or milking every last second off of the clock. Everything together has been a super overdue change.

True professional.

Competent QB play is a must. Philip Rivers being gainfully employed by the Colts as a starter in 2025 can attest to that.

Not sure how he can tell the guy to motion and run a go and the defense couldn't cover it but I guess if it's LB on Gainwell he didn't care. Veteran savy and is allowed to do that ****.

Because he knew they were in man by looking at the backers and Dbs up on the weak side of the Steelers formation even though initially it looks like 2 high, the main key being the guy coming up and getting right on Muth. Even though they were disguising in 2 high Rodgers knew the free safety would leave his spot and come to the middle of the field changing to single high, why?

Remember when Ben would throw those crossing patterns to Ju Ju a few years ago that JuJu would take to the house? That's why. If you have everyone in man and one guy beats his defender and catches that crosser every other defensive player has their back to the QB covering their guy. If the free safety doesn't come down that crosser is going to score or at least be a giant gain. So they send him down to help cover the middle. The strong safety is staying on the side DK is lined up on. You don't dare send him down unless you are a complete fool(Teryl Austin) The strong safety might be the only one that can stop that route IF it comes to his side and IF DK doesn't have him locked up in a block once the completion happens.

It doesn't have to be a crossing route, but that is the most feared route from the defense's perspective in that situation.

By the way, people were ripping on Benton during the last play of the game for not paying attention when the Lion's receiver tossed the ball to Goff...watch the strong safety(#12) on the Gainwell play. He runs all the way across the field once he sees the ball is going to the weak side, and then stops about 8 feet from Gainwell looks at him then lets him get up and run, then he reacts. Now that is bad...Benton had his back turned and there were flags on the ground. He didn't see what was going on.

It can’t hurt. Especially knowing the kid is a student of the game.

Hope he is. You can't really coach this .

That's a good thing because I don't think we have the coaching ability to do it.

Will is a scholar of the game and Aaaa-ron is good medicine man.
