Dupree to falcons

I guess they really didn't want him since his deal with Atlanta is for 1 year and up to $5 million.

it takes two to tango. He might be getting a shot at starting

True but he might get that in Pittsburgh if Highsmith is looking for the $16-18 million I keep seeing. That is way too high for him and especially for the Steelers. Hopefully, they can keep him on a 3 to 4 year extension in the $12 to $14 million range otherwise, I think he is as good as gone.

We offered a two year deal as a backup. Atlanta offered him a one year deal as a guy who will likely start the season as a starter… it’s obvious that they are probably targeting an edge in the first and if not then almost certainly within the first three picks they have… and Dupree will mentor and placehold a starting job until the rookie is ready…

That gives him a chance to prove himself and get one last good contract next year

That is the usual course of negotiations particularly with year left on contract. Say they are 4 million apart now. Then you get to June. Player starts to consider getting his big cheque NOW. Then he considers playing 17 maybe more games and risk associated. They meet in middle. Seen it more than him playing it out. Plus they have tag options.

Probably. I just can't see them paying him what some are saying. They just can't tie up that much money in just OLB's. Maybe they will do it but I would be surprised. If they pick an OLB in the first 2 rounds, I'd be even more shocked if they end up keeping Highsmith unless he does sign closer to that $12 million number. He's had one good year where his stats were padded when Watt was playing. He didn't do much when Watt was out. I think offering him in the $12 to 14 million range is a very fair and respectable offer based on his body of work.

I agree with you and i REALIZE, 16+ is way to much for the Steelers to spend. This "D" is over paid as it and for the "cap" sake of things, needs to find quality talent at a lesser price. In other words, they need to "HIT" more on the draft talent they pick.

I think Weidl (sp) will help in that department.

Why can't Coach Tomlin and Co. seem to hire better talent evaluators........ ?

maybe Trenton Smith in the 3rd wouldn't be a bad idea.

this would be a mazing draft if things end up like this
17 CB Porter jr
32 WR Addison
49 DT Benton
80 OLB Simpson

I'm glad we didn't sign him. He is washed up.

We definitely need the depth he would have brought, but I think we get a very good “depth” OLB in this draft.

As far as washed up, Titans played him injured, now that he is “healed“ up, it may be a different story….. Time will tell

For the Steelers, he was always a potential "two year" cheap contract option. Was more likely to get a potential starting gig elsewhere. If the Steelers really wanted him, other than as a two-year cheap contract, they would have offered two years at 8mil guaranteed (at least). They didn't and I am good with that.
