The link is Trump's proposed discretionary spending plan which will leave a trillion dollar deficit. If you believe in a balanced budget and don't want tax increases, how would you eliminate a
trillion dollars from this portion of the federal budget that is discretionary.

The current discretionary budget is 5% of projected GDP. Doesn't seem like we spend that much on government for such a large economy. We actually spend very little on giveaways.
68% of the discretionary budget is Defense & Veteran benefits.

The problem is non-discretionary spending. The mandatory national Ponzi Schemes are bankrupting us. But the answer is we have to cut EVERYTHING across the board by 40%.

This^^^ It won't be long until the interest on the national debt will be unsustainable. SSI, Medicare and Medicaid are growing exponentially. Before too long non discretionary spending will over take the entire GDP.

Defense needs to be cut as well. We can cut Defense spending by 40% and still be stronger than the next ten countries ranked by spending. Most of those countries are our allies.

Until the debt is unserviceable and the currency collapses. Worthless money has no comedic value.

Everyone says that ending welfare will cause rampant crime and pandemonium. That is an easy fix though, shoot the rioters and criminals in the face and the problem is solved. The rest of the welfare bums will get jobs or move to where the jobs are.

Its baffling that our existential threats can field weapons that scare the Pentagon to death for a fraction of what we spend. Well, except when you consider what the oligarchs and pols make off the contracts. Could that be the problem? Could that $2.3T that went 'untracked' in the Pentagon be a symptom or a cause? And the $6B missing from State?

We can cut defense by 40% or a lot more. And have the best weapons ever conceived. But we need to get rid of the @#$% that has been running this country for the last 60 years, and make payment for their crimes an unacceptable risk to anyone who might consider them going forward.

And putting our good people in harm's way when we have tech that eliminates the need.................................................................. No, I'm not going into a rant. Not tonight.

Money being siphoned off for the alien re-engineering projects going on in Area 51. That's also why they have $10,000 toilet seats and $7,000 coffee makers. At least that's what I read on the interweb.

You either need a lot more employed people in the United States or you need a lot more tax on the already employed.

Social security can be fixed anytime Congress wants, just take the cap off the wages that are taxed.

You can't be this dense. Taxes don't make things better they make them worse. Which is why the government taxes things they want to punish. You want few smokers then tax cigarettes. Want less productive people.. tax production. When you reduce taxes you get more money coming into the government. It's been tried from Kennedy to Trump. It works. The problem is spending. The government can't stop spending. It's hard to do but it can be done. No one has the spin to do it.

SSI can be fixed by raising the retirement age. You can't pay for people to be retired for 30-40 years. No system can handle that. It needs to be adjusted to the life expectancy of people.

So just one more thing the working people of the country who have educated themselves and built a career have to subsidize for those who don't. I'll add it to our list along with the college tuition we pay for everyone else, the health insurance premiums we pay for everyone else, and the vast majority of income taxes we pay for everyone else.

That sounds fair.

At what point do we decide working this hard is just not worth it, when a bunch of people who didn't do what we did can get everything we have to pay for, but for free? We're still a little ways away from that point, but not too far off.

Precisely. And to parrot what Sarge has said over and over and over, stop the spending ********! They take in approx. 3.5 trillion dollars a year in taxes, that's damn near criminal.
 
How to reduce the federal deficit:


1) Stop Spending more than you take in.


2) Pay your bills.


3) Repeat steps 2 and 3.

It is criminal. And what is the Democrat platform? More theft through taxation for "social justice." This green new deal is a farce. Estimates have it at somewhere near $7 trillion. $7 trillion, and most of the experts that have weighed in are saying completely renewable energy is an impossible conquest. As far as creating tons of high paying jobs? How much will that and the green energy companies be subsidized? It is ridiculous. Truth is, what is being proposed cannot be achieved. It is another theft and wealth redistribution scheme, period, full stop.
