“I think he helped all of us — he helped Antonio [Brown], — He controlled safeties and made some big plays for us.” – Ben Roethlisberger on 93.7 The Fan on Martavis Bryant Last season was full of suspicion surrounding the 4th year wide receiver, Martavis Bryant. Did he really want to be in Pittsburgh?*Was […]

Dissapointed doesnt even begin to describe my feelings about Martavis Bryant last season. He is playing opposite the best receiver in football. If the otger team actually cared about Bryant, Juju would have been essentially uncovered. No route tree. Corner backed up an extra yard and didnt give a **** about underneath. He was terrible with the ball in his hands on quick throws. There was barely biggar shoes to fill than Eli Rogers. He may go off in Oakland but trust me he was not going to in Pittsburgh.

I really thought MB was going to destroy defenses last season with the deep threat. Just didn't happen for whatever reason. If Washington turns out to be half as good as Ju Ju, we won't be missing Bryant at all.

Too unhappy about not being the #1 guy so he sulked and played like a #4 guy.

Precicely. And on what planet would have he been the number one guy across from AB. Truth is he could have put himself in a great position with 900-1000 yards and 7 TDs. One year on a contract.

Sure he was sulking just not sure his number #4 type of performance was due to it.

That time off did him no favors. He admitted to not being much of a workout warrior prior to his time off. I am not so sure that light switch went on in that time period. Instead of sharpening his burst sword, he decided he needed to pack on muscle weight. I am not so sure he will ever get it back either.

And for his career he better pray that the Raiders somehow stay in Oakland. As the city that never sleeps is the wrong type of environment for the kid. I lived there long enough to know it was the wrong type of environment for me.

I think sooner or later with most guys, you see why they went where they went in the draft. There are always exceptions, I know, but still. Bryant has speed, but can't run routes and for sure can't high point the ball. I can't figure it out. I'm sure they paly a lot of basketball. When you rebound you high point the basketball many times. Why can't he go up and snag a football? Maybe he has trouble tracking it. I don't know, but I don't think he is going to blow anything up in Oakland. He is what he is. Big game here and there, frustratinly inconsistent.

He also has cottage cheese for a brain. I think the Steelers are just getting sick and tired of some of these guys.

Oh there has been rumors some of the FO wanted Bell gone. I think that is a valid believe. Washington and Rudolph and even Edmunds are the type of players that won't be considered a possible headache.

I think the organization more than ever is looking at behavioral angles.

Somebody would have to smoke a shiotload of weed to fill those shoes!

Weed is legal in Cali, and that doesn't bode well for MB. Then moving to Vegas, he is a train wreck waiting to happen.

I wish him well, and hope he grows up, but have my doubts.

Steelers will be fine without him.

I really don't think the steelers are done in Free Agency on this position. I look for them to pick up a veteran receiver during camp or at the end of cut down.

I know DHB is a a Special team factor, but at some point you gotta move on and pick up a guy who you have confidence in to step in and start. Who ALSO can do special teams.

IF im Tombert im looking for another WR.

We have JuJu. I'm not at all worried.

The STEELERS will NOT miss a beat without this under achieving suspended player. Bryant is no longer a STEELER so who gives a flying ****. I don't wish bad on him but he isn't a STEELERS player any more so as said,...........WGaF.

Some of you are forgetting the new draft pick,.......Washington. He will make someone expendable.

I get that. Hes pretty good. Then we have a slot guy coming off an acl, and a Rookie Washington, DHB and Hunter. Maybe im leaving someone out.

Im just thinking this isn't very deep and we might want to be looking for another vet who is very serviceable, DHB is going on year 10 in the league.

I think we are going to be ok..James Washington is going to be good. Great hands physical at the catch point. Physical at the line against press.. high points the football..tracks the football very well. Very willing and physical blocker. Good after the catch.. him shuster and Brown will be a good three..i also like Samuels in the slot

And don't forget Vance McDonald. If he can stay healthy, he was looking beastly out there. And I can see Washington filling Marty's role and then some. Think that kid is gonna be pretty special. Then add "Human Swiss Army Knife" Samuels and Jesse James is always good for a clutch catch to move the chains. Not too worried at this point.

So was Troy Edwards, Limas Sweed, Sammy Coates, Markus Wheaton, & Fred Gibson

You could also cite all the ones they got right as well, because there are a lot of them. And are there any specific concerns you have with James Washington?

Coates and Wheaton were derailed by injuries. That **** happens.Edwards was a reach for need at the time over value. Small school product even had a solid first year. So I credit him for that. I credit the Steelers for moving away from non power 5 schools early. Sweed had ****** hands, but still had injury issues too. That was a solid bust. Gibson a solid bust as well.

BTW players who manage to stay around in this league inches their way off the bust list. And we see Coates and Wheaton still have teams to go to. So the jury is still out. Doubt it? look no further than DHB that was labeled a bust but still managed to find himself a niche. And is still trucking.

I can understand labeling LBer as problematic, but the Steeler have had one of the better league successes at WR.

Now as far as Washington's realistic concerns, can he develop a full route tree. Is he a product of the system they run there giving them friendly room to maneuver.

Those are the listed if you read around. Some even question the speed, although I thought he answered that bell well with his follow up pro day workouts.I am in the camp that believes Washington's work ethic mixed with capability will have him shining early. Not too different than Juju. I also think he won't have the burst of a Bryant in his rookie stages. I think he will be faster than the Bryant of last year, and be able to handle a greater route tree than MB could handle. When it is all said and done with.

I think he will need to work on his blocking but is capable.

I think the floor for Washington is a solid WR, with the ceiling obviously being a star.

They could bring Rogers back and may still look at an available FA. I wonder if they may consider Samuels as a 4-5 receiver?
