This guy is a 26 year old FA ILB from the Falcons. He led the league in tackles last year.
What kind of contract do you think it would take to sign him?
Can't see paying $9+ million for Schobert when Oluakon had more tackles in 2021 than Bush and Schobert combined.
Your thoughts?

How is he in coverage?

Good question Slash. I can guarantee he's better in coverage than any ILB on our current roster.

BTW, the 2021 stats were as follows;

Bush & Schobert combined for 182 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception.
Foye Oluokun had 192 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 interceptions.

He played football for Yale, so I'm sure he will have no problem learning our defensive scheme.
Oh by the way, did I mention he runs a 4.48 40?

I still think Schobert was learning this D and was lost at times covering for Bush. ILB in Pittsburgh are put in position to defend WR, RB and TE that are never hit off their routes, most guys release clean and they only have 2 DL in front of them going against 4 or 5. Hard to think a guy could regress that much outside of the "system/scheme" run out by Mediocre Mike.

Oluakon's 192 tackles ranks 7th ALL TIME in NFL history. He wears a green dot on his helmet, moves quickly from sideline to sideline, and doesn't miss tackles.
Watch his 2021 season highlights on YouTube and let me know what you think.

Welcome back, iirc you used to post here a couple of years ago

I fully agree with your assessment as a replacement for Bush. I would consider restructuring Joe, I think he has more of a chance to turn it back around

You have my interest. I will have to check out some of his game tapes. That definitely screams instinctual. The D does need an upgrade at ILber. Good find.

Someone on FB hipped me to this guy a couple of weeks ago. I think if they can get him, they should most definitely do so. I'd take him over Bush in a height/weight/awareness/productivity upgrade any day of the week However, I think there's going to be a nice little under the radar bidding war for this kid.

I think you're right Steel about the bidding war, so let's go to war. Cut Schobert and sign this guy. Problem solved.

I mean he looks awesome but he is going to get PAID…. Thats why you develop a sixth rounder with raw ability and not try to get him in ufa… I highly doubt we can afford him if they don’t outright tag him

No way they tag him, they have 2 other ILB’s (Deion Jones, Mykal Walker) under contract and one of them (Jones) has a dead cap hit of $25 million in 2022.

There is no way we can afford to fill the roster out, resign Fitzpatrick, and sign an elite ILB…

Never say never.............!!!

Salute the nation

I’m no fan of PFF, but damn their grade on this dude is awful (44ish). The one ATL fan I know doesn’t even want the guy back short of a very team friendly deal (that ain’t happening after those stats tho

maybe a product of a bad D giving him tons of opportunities??? He did play almost 1200 snaps. At any rate MT will probably love the guy because he’s a hybrid box safety/LB…but at 215 lbs as a 3-4 backer he’ll need some legit beef in front of him. From the limited highlights I saw I wouldn’t pay too much for him, just not sure how he’d fit (our system of not tackling rushers).

A bit weird, not sure what’s really up with this dude…good or just a good season on a bad D?

Found an article from last year calling him elite. Its definitely all over on the perspective of him. I mean if we were looking to replace bush he would fit what the coaches want there, but bush is only 23 so I don’t think they will give up on him yet

He weighed 229 at his pro day in 2018.
Since then, I’m sure spending time in an NFL weight room didn’t hurt.

Watching him on tape, he definitely looks closer to 230 than 215. He definitely passes the eyeball test and had the production.

Unlike Bush, He sheds blocks and constantly accelerates to the ball. Playing 1149 snaps in 2021 is a testament to his durability. He averaged over 10 tackles a game.

Not sure what the “one “ Atlanta fan you know didn’t like. Did he elaborate?

I’ve watched his tape, and this guy is legit.

Be surprised if falcons let him go he’s a next generation inside defender not really a linebacker not really a safety. The game is changing always changing you have wrs running the ball out of the slot, running backs receiving the ball out wide, “go” te’s and big te’s like gronk out wide and defending them all is tough… i Could see this guy replacing Bush, Schobert, and edmunds!

Said about 100-150 we’re just come touch the guy and get an assist tackles lol, getting the Ray Lewis/Brian Urlacher treatment.

I watched quite a bit of his highlight reels and to my eye saw a bit of that, also saw a really good hand punch to force fumbles. Didn’t see too many lays where he just wowed me, but also didn’t see him looking anything like Bush out there

I wouldn’t break the bank for the guy in our D (could find much cheaper options than he will be on the market)…We have far better ways to waste our cap space imo.

He had 102 SOLO tackles and 90 assisted tackles. Not sure how as you say,
“100-150”of his tackles “were come touch the guy and get an assist”?

Obviously, we watched different “highlight reels”. LOL

I am not promoting breaking the bank for him either, but a reasonable offer might acquire a gem.
