Franco Harris number is retired by the Steelers on the 50 year anniversary of the immaculate reception

Nice and classy move by the Steelers. I was in attendance when Franco made that catch years ago. At the game with my cousin where we enjoyed having season tickets. Also at the AFCC game the following week against the Dolphins. Should have won that game too.

Home page story on it. Reads pretty good.

Salute the nation

With this precedent, some other low key trolls

Retire Jack Lamberts number on the 50th anniversary of him planting Cliff Harris
Retire Bradshaw’s on the fiftieth of him being taught how to spell CAT …
Retire Woodson on the fiftieth of him taunting Michael Irvin after breaking up a pass in the Super Bowl…
Retire Bettis’ on the anniversary of him steamrolling Urlacher
Retire Ben’s on the anniversary of his td throw to Holmes
Retire AB’s on the anniversary of him throwing that couch off the balcony

March 16, 2023 - retire #63 on the 50th anniversary of Ernie Holmes shooting at a police helicopter on the Ohio turnpike.

They do need to retire Bradshaw no 12 though. The guy was a league mvp, two time sb mvp, 4 time sb winning QB. I think still too
much bad blood there. Terry missing Art’s funeral years ago was a bad look that I think the Rooney’s never got over. I don’t think he attended Dans or Emperor Noll’s funeral either. Otherwise I think he would have had his number retired long ago.

Just imagine for a second...if he did that in this day and age!

Back then it was like.......Oh that just Arrowhead being Arrowhead lol...

**** Larry Siepel!!

**** Larry Siepel!!
Yep that’s correct! The entire 11 Steelers had their backs turned and all punter Siepel had to do is take off. Easy, easy yards to make the first down. I have that vision burned into my memory watching the Steelers turn their backs and the punter taking off. Never forget that one. Play of the game and of Siepel’s career.Fins very lucky that day.

For us old timers Franco’s draft year. Recognize a few names, but not a hell of a lot.

As a young kid,Franco was my first favorite Pittsburgh Steeler. I think I just thought the name Franco was cool. Who knows.....I was just a kid.

Back then,I lived and breathed baseball. I was a pitcher for the pirates in my hometown in Vancouver. I loved the Black & gold uniform. We won everything. Representing our province we finally lost in the Canadian championships, but quite an accomplishment for a little suburb outside the big city in that time. I loved the Pittsburgh Pirates Roberto Clemente was my hero. Bruce Kison,Dock Ellis were my pitchers. Manny Sanguillén was my catcher. Who could ever forget Hebner and Oliver,Cash,Stennett. And of course my second favorite Big Willie Stargell. Man I hated the Yankees

Because of the Pirates,I fell in love with another Black & Gold team. I took notice of that cocky big mouth QB they drafted. But what really sol me for some reason was the drafting and playing of Franco. Baseball started it,but he definitely cemented my life long relationship with the Steelers. Its

Kind of funny but after all these years Franco is probably not even in my top 7 favorite player,I’d have to think about that one. But if there is a retired Steelers player that represents the Steelers better than Franco I don’t n know Who it is.
He does it with class, you can see the pride of what being a Steeler means to him.

So I say Congratulations Franco! We’ll deserved.

The 50th Anniversary of the first Pittsburgh Steeler playoff win. Too bad we didn't have those Rooney never won anything in 40 years posters back then...

Since they're retiring #32 at halftime of the Raiders game, hopefully that means Najee can rock the 32 Harris jersey in the 1st half!!

Nice story. So many of the 70's Steelers represent/represented the team so well after they retired. Blount, Bleier, Franco, Swanny...

He badmouthed Noll while he was still alive, and continues to badmouth him now that he’s dead.
F Terry.
No way his number should be retired.
Too many other more deserving players from that era.

Maybe O'Donnell will have his jersey retired by the Cowgirls on the 50th anniversary of him floating two balls into Larry Brown.

Never realized that Steve Furness and Joe Gilliam were drafted same year as Franco...
Anyway...you can see by that draft the Steelers were already looking at smaller schools for talent...

There should be 4 more numbers retired over the next 50th ann'y of each Super Bowl from the 70s. 47, 52, 58 and 59. Then we do 7, 12 and 43 at some point.

By the numbers, 3rd best QB in Steelers history.
