We know the Steelers say they don't go into the draft with holes. With that said...
1. What FA's of their own do they sign?
2. What outside FA's and at what position do you realistically think they sign?
3. What positions in the draft do you see the Steelers targeting?

Re-Sign
1. Ahkello Witherspoon
-Once he got settled into the starting lineup, his play was very good. Proved to be a playmaker with size.

2. Terrell Edmunds
-Not everyone can be a star on defense. Edmunds is unspectacular, but solid, and he should come at a fair price.

3. Montravius Adams
-Showed he could be a valuable depth player last year.

4. Miles Killebrew
-Pretty good value on special teams last year.

5. Arthur Mallet
-Not a great player. Feels like a minimal risk to re-sign and if they find a better option, release him.

6. Ray-Ray McCloud
-I won't penalize McCloud for the coaching staff giving him too many snaps. While frustrating at times, he is still a good returner.

Okorafor will be tempting because he is still so young, but you are keeping him and hoping he gets better. The Steelers have enough guys on the offensive line they hope will get better (Dotson, Moore, Green). They need proven talent. Haden is still a good player, but his skills are starting to fade and JuJu is a guy I'd like to keep, they just need a different type of player for this offense and he probably wants to go to a team with a good QB.

Free Agent Targets

Quarterback

1. Mitch Trubisky
-He feels like he's the forgotten QB among national analysts this offseason. Career 64.1 completion percentage, 64 TDs to just 38 INTs. He was over .500 in three of his four seasons in Chicago, a terrible team for QBs. Most importantly, he should be the most affordable option. IMO, he is the best option in terms of cost efficiency.

2. Marcus Mariotta
-Another cost efficient option with the ability to move around in the pocket. Not as much NFL success as Trubisky, but affordable.

3. Jameis Winston
-He has the highest upside in terms of production. However, he is coming off a major injury and given his upside, maybe be in demand.

Other options: Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariotta

Running Back
James White
-The Steelers need a backup for Najee Harris and I think this backup should have a different skill set. White is an ideal third-down backup with plus receiving ability.

Wide Receiver
Cedric Wilson
-There isn't much depth at the position and Wilson provides good size and experience in the slot. He also has the ability to step in as a No. 2 if needed.

Offensive Line
Ryan Jensen, C
-He's the top IOL in free agency and will cost a good bit, but he is a veteran presence who would solidify the interior.

2. Ben Jones, C
-If not Jensen, Ben Jones is a more affordable option. He's well over 30 and the wheels could fall off at any point, but again, this is a young offensive line in need of a veteran presence.

3. Brandon Shell, RT
-Not an elite tackle, just solid. That's all the Steelers need right now to upgrade the offensive line. A nice stopgap option if they draft a right tackle on day 2 or early day 3.

Defensive Line
Bilal Nichols, DE
-A lot will depend on what happens with Tuitt. If he retires, they'll need another player on the defensive line and Nichols has starting experience. He isn't anywhere near the player Tuitt was, but could provide an option until maybe a high draft pick is ready.

Linval Joseph, IDL
-I don't know if he'll want to go to a team like the Steelers at his age. I just like he's a proven run stuffer. However, with Alualu back and if Adams is re-signed, I don't see this one happening.

Linebacker
Anthony Walker, ILB
-Inside linebacker is an important position, I just don't want to see the Steelers invest a ton of money yet again after the draft picks spent to acquire Bush and Schobert. They have a lot invested in the position and I'd try to get a free-agent bargain here.

Defensive Back
Donte Jackson, CB
-He lost snaps in Carolina, yet has a pedigree and we know Tomlin likes players with pedigree. As we saw with Nelson and Witherspoon, the Steelers don't necessarily need a stud at CB and can put guys with talent in position to succeed.

K'waun Williams, CB
-Williams would strictly be to step in as a slot corner. He's been a good player for a long time and shouldn't cost much.

Jordan Whitehead, S
-If Edmunds doesn't return, I go with an "old school" safety in Whitehead. He's a physical player who could pair well with what Fitzpatrick brings.

448 sums it up real well.

I'm not sold on McCloud. His return skill is easily replaced and we may even have that skill already on the roster.

One of those centers are needed desperately. Don't go cheap and think GREEN working with pouncy is going to solve everything because it won't and the vet influence on the line will pay off in addition to the aqusition.

ILB is another position needed to be filled through FA aquizition. If team feels new coach and player can turn it around then BUSH is similar to a FA pick up. If NOT, then heavy investment is needed. If he stays healthy I think BUSH will show B-I-G improvement.

Salute the nation

Keep:
- Witherspoon 7M avg, the guy is a starter
- Edmunds 5M avg, or another similar FA if he doesn't like the offer. There are a couple of serviceable SS available that could fit in
- Okorafor 5M, ok maybe the guy doesn't have a good push in the running game but he is a decent pass blocker and an play both T sides, that has value. He can be a swing tackle and push Moore to make the sophomore jump
- Adams, Killebrew, Ray Ray all should be cheap and add value, especially the NT.
- if Haden wants to come back for a couple more years at 5M avg I receive him with open arms.
- try to renegotiate Joe Scho to lower his salary, else cut him and bring a cheap vet. This means draft an ILB between 2nd and 4th round.

Outside FA:
- sign trubisky 10M
- Bring a top 3 Guard, 10M
- Bring a C with starting experience 5M, he will fight it out with Hassenhour and Green.

Draft a CB between rounds 1-3. Same for OT and DL. WR and ILB between 1 and 5. Of course all this under the BPA rules for those positions
