if you look at this, the Lions will take a QB #1 overall.
which means Goff is not part of their plans.

if you were Colbert, would you offer a draft pick (and, say Rudy) to the Lions for Goff IF they take a QB in the first? Consider the makeup of our roster, their age, etc.

It's a hard quest for the QB of the future. So many just aren't the guy. So many surprises on who is the guy.

Yeah, I agree.

IMO, we’ll look at a mid-level vet (Jimmy G) or a guy a little better (someone like Goff, if not him) and draft a QB. Historically that is what is successful.

All that considered, if a team above us takes a QB in the first, we should consider who their starter is and if they’re interested in a trade.

It would not shock me at all if the Steelers go out and get a below average veteran with significant starter experience once Roethlisberger officially retires.

Of course, that will help Tomlin maintain whatever semblance of "average non-losing season" streak he has, but it won't win us anything come playoff time.

And yes, someone like Garrapolo or Goff are two perfect examples of that type of player. Whatever QB merry-go-round happens next offseason, I think the Steelers will be part of it if Roethlisberger is out. I am very, very concerned that if Rooney does indeed decide to keep Tomlin/Colbert after the Roethlisberger era that we will be in an era of mediocrity for a LONG time (you could argue we've been in that for the last decade already).

They have been, with Ben Roethlisberger.

It is probably why, even though I think the world of Ben and what he is done, I am not dreading the end of his career.

It is kind of sad in a way. There is a lot of "what ifs." Kinda like Favre's career.

I am dreading the most likely long line of bums I'll have endure before they find that guy again.

Well, I just watch Pickett lead his team down the field to tie the game up. He's not a scrub...

If he is there at our first pick it is quite possible we take him. Historically the STEELERS love local talent.

Goff isn't very good and is pretty expensive. He wasn't good playing under an offensive guru, so I don't expect him to be a franchise-type guy under Canada or whatever QB/WR coach the Steelers promote to eventually take over for Canada.

A agree with this as I've just never seen the infactuation some have had with Goff. We won't have to worry about it untill next year but i'd pass on Goff and ride Rudy instead which is more likely the scenerio that plays out.

Kenny Pickett sounds like a country music or Nascar driver ....... but he did just pass Marino for TDs all time and has a chance to pass for more yards than Van Pelt.

At 6'3" 220lbs I prefer him to all the other QBs that were selected ahead of him in the mock article. His body of work is larger and he seems like a gamer

I am all but certain the Steelers roll with Rudolph at least for 2022. Haskins is the “competition” and unless a good value drops to the Steelers I doubt they draft a QB early.

Dan Marino and Aaron Donald say Hell no ......... I mean hello

I realize that but the STEELERS do bring in a lot of local talent and you are right they missed on Marino and Donald but was Donald available at the time PITTSBURGH was drafting, my memory fades but wasn't he gone ? Either way I hear what you are saying.

He wasn’t and I remember a rumor he was the guy they targeted that year. They did whiff on marino tho

There’s been guys the Steelers would have drafted from Pitt without batting an eye. Usually don’t happen because those players get drafted before they pick. Darrell Revis is another one the Steelers probably draft but he was snaked one pick before us in 2007.

I remeber REVIS and hoping like hell we'd get him. He would have made a difference through that era of STEELERS football.

I also remeber how disappointed I was when he was gone before us.

Rodgers will be coming aboard. No worries.🤠

Currently I can't stand Rodgers B-U-T if he comes aboard then my thinking will find a way to change !!!!

Until then I do NOT root against getting him but will still dislike him as a packer.
